Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his wife pastor Dorcas Rigathi marked the start of the Easter holidays by walking eight kilometres early on Friday, April 7 to visit his 93-year-old aunt living in Iganjo village.

The second-in-command reminisced memories of using the route in the 70s to get to her aunt's home.

"On the way, I came across my village mates whom we grew up with. We exchanged greetings and shared lots of laughter," he narrated in part.

The DP praised his village mates for being hardworking, aggressive, and focused. During the journey, he was seen interacting with some of them, including a milkman on a boda boda.

The couple were captured donning tracksuits, with Gachagua sporting a full-on grey tracksuit with a cartoon of himself as well as his nickname 'Riggy G' printed on the front of its hoodie.

On arrival at the home, Gachagua's aunt received the couple well alongside other relatives and shared breakfast in the living room.

"My Auntie prayed for me, blessed me and treated me to a heavy breakfast of boiled maize and porridge," he went on.

Gachagua also revealed that the sight of her aunt also brought back memories of his late mother whom he claimed resembled her in all aspects including her talking style.

"Seeing her makes me remember my late mother who looked exactly like her and talked like her. Parents are a blessing and we must always take care of them, especially at old age," he added.

Gachagua is the eighth-born in a family of nine children born to the late Nahashon Gachagua and Martha Kirigo.

The couple last visited his aunt in October 2022, who is the last surviving, and prayed for the couple before sharing a meal with other relatives.

"I thank God that my Auntie is strong and healthy. Looking at her I see my late mother and I thank God for her life," the DP stated.
