Over the weekend, a 28-year-old woman surrendered to police after she had allegedly stabbed her boyfriend to death during an altercation in Mur-Ngiya sub-location, Siaya County.

Police revealed that the incident took place on Saturday night, December 7, when the woman, identified as Vivian Akoth, attacked and stabbed her 35-year-old boyfriend Charlton Obare over claims he cheated on her.

According to the Assistant Chief of Mur-Ng’iya sub-location, Grace Otieno, the deceased was said to have arrived home at around 9.00 pm together with his other friend Reagan, with the girlfriend following them immediately.

She stated that in the event while leaving, Reagan heard a commotion and Akoth immediately passed him in the dark while being chased by Charlton whom she had already stabbed in the chest.

The Assistant Chief divulged that Obare collapsed moments later, prompting Akoth to ask Reagan to confirm his condition. “She even arranged for a motorbike to take him to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries before help could arrive,” the Assistant Chief explained.

The woman who is a mother of one had fled the scene but later surrendered herself to Siaya Police Station.

Police officers visited the scene and moved Charlton’s body to Siaya County Referral Hospital mortuary as investigations continue.

Otieno took the opportunity to caution the youth against resorting to violence. “Disputes should be resolved amicably, not through violence. Taking the law into your own hands only leads to tragedy,” she said.

Vivian, a mother of one, remains in custody as detectives piece together details of the incident.

Authorities have urged members of the public to embrace peaceful conflict resolution to avoid similar occurrences. This incident comes amidst claims of the existence of androcide, which is the hate crime of systematically killing males because of their sex, even though all murders of men are androcide and the crimes often happen during war or genocide.

Meanwhile, femicide cases have been rampant across the country, with the 'End Femicide' march planned for across the country on Tuesday, December 10. Femicide cases dominated news headlines at the beginning of the year, leading to the first round of anti-femicide protests. The murders of Starlet Wahu and 20-year-old Rita Waeni in the space of a week rocked the country to the very core.

The cases had reduced in prominence during the year, only to resurface between August and October, with data from the National Police Service (NPS) showing that at least 97 women were brutally murdered in just 90 days, a cruel statistic that breaks the hearts of many.

Worse yet, after the report which was released at least two weeks ago, there have been more than 15 additional cases of gruesome murders of women reported countrywide, with the police stating that investigations are ongoing to bring to book all suspects linked to the murders.

However, there have been calls for justice across all genders as murders have taken place across the board in recent times.
