Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has warned President William Ruto against visiting Meru if a planned ouster against Chief Justice Martha Koome is realised.

Speaking during a church service at AIPCA Antubetwe Kiongo Church in Igembe North, Meru County on Sunday, February 23, a tough-talking Gachagua urged Ruto not to move ahead with initiating the ouster, notifying him of consequences should he ever think of setting foot in Meru.

The impeached second-in-command even claimed that the Head of State had planned with the courts of Kenya and even bribed lawyers to see to it that the Chief Justice was kicked out of the Judiciary in the same manner he was impeached and like how Mithika Linturi was sent home when President Ruto disbanded his Cabinet in July last year.

“These Meru people have been taken for granted for too long. It must come to an end. The President has planned to remove Chief Justice Martha Koome. He began with Rigathi Gachagua, he impeached him. He then kicked out Mithika Linturi. He has now planned a tribunal to kick out Martha Koome. He has organised with the courts and bribed people to kick out Koome," Gachagua revealed.

"He wants that when he kicks out these people he finishes off all businesses of the people of Mt Kenya. But I want to tell the President that if you kick out Martha Koome, do not set foot in Meru. You impeached Rigathi Gachagua and the Mt Kenya people kept quiet, you thought they were cowards. We are telling you, Mr President, you go ahead and remove Martha Koome as you stay in Nairobi and never set foot in Meru again!"

Gachagua reiterated his threat to lead demonstrations against the government in places such as Meru if CJ Koome is removed from office before her term is completed.

"When this woman is kicked out, I'll blow the whistle so that you take to the streets. Will you turn up or not? We are not going to sit again as William Ruto destroys the leadership of the Mt Kenya region. It is too much, it cannot be. Where the President has got us to, it is too much," he added.

Gachagua has also called upon the Meru residents to reject leaders and politicians who have sided with President William Ruto in the 2027 General Elections.

“This community called the Mt Kenya region will deal with traitors for the next 50 years. There will be no one who will betray this community for 50 years. We are going to send a very strong signal to everyone who has betrayed the Mt Kenya region. Alongside William Ruto, we will kick out every one of you and send you home," he added.

His sentiments were backed by Kirinyaga Women Representative Njeri Maina, who claimed that plans to hound out the CJ could commence on Monday, February 24.

"What wrong has Martha Koome done to you, our president? The first female Chief Justice whom we respect and because I am a lawyer I decided I must say it," she addressed earlier.

"I'm pleading with the President and his choir masters whom we see going round and insulting people, they are very satisfied and are now coming for us, who woke up very early in the morning to vote for them. They have become so big that they cannot even listen to us as citizens. We are telling them to leave Martha Koome alone so that she completes her work."

In his speech, the former Deputy President predicted that his new party would secure over 120 Members of Parliament. He also encouraged MCAs to start making arrangements to join him before the nominations.

As far as the removal of CJ Koome is concerned, she got a reprieve after the High Court temporarily barred the Judicial Service Commission from considering petitions aimed at kicking her out.

Justice Lawrence Mugambi made the ruling on Friday, February 21, which not only saves CJ Koome from facing an ouster from her seat but also the Supreme Court judges such as her deputy Philomena Mwilu, justices Mohamed Ibrahim, Smokin Wanjala, Njoki Ndung’u and Isaac Lenaola, and William Ouko.

The orders originate from a petition submitted by Justice Njoki Ndung’u, requesting the court to halt proceedings aimed at removing the seven Supreme Court judges.

The Supreme Court judges had earlier moved to sue the JSC over the petitions which sought to remove the judges, terming them a 'mockery of the justice system'.
