Labour Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced a significant employment opportunity for boda boda operators in Dubai, with tax-free monthly salaries ranging between Ksh80,000 and Ksh120,000.

In a statement issued on Friday, May 23, Mutua indicated that the job openings are specifically available to individuals from Kenya’s Coastal region. Several companies based in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are scheduled to conduct interviews for the positions.

A total of 2,000 vacancies are open for boda boda operators—referred to as delivery riders—who will also receive benefits such as medical insurance and accommodation. Additional roles are available for construction helpers and gardeners.

Applicants must be 38 years old or younger to qualify for these opportunities.

Gardeners will earn between Ksh31,000 and Ksh45,000 per month, while construction helpers will receive a monthly salary of Ksh35,000. Both roles come with benefits, including medical insurance, accommodation, and meals.

For delivery riders, applicants must have either a motorcycle license or a standard driver’s license, along with a valid passport or proof that one has been applied for. Gardeners and construction helpers are only required to present a passport or proof of application.

CS Mutua also emphasised the importance of dressing professionally for the interviews, specifically advising all applicants to wear closed shoes.

“Look smart and professional. Shabby, unclean, or poorly dressed individuals will not be considered,” Mutua stated.

The interviews are set to run for four days, from Monday, May 26 to Thursday, May 29, and will be held in various locations across Malindi, Kilifi, Mombasa, and Kwale.

On Monday, May 26, candidates in Malindi should report to Butwani Waterfront Park, Silversand, along Museum Road in Malindi Town. On Tuesday, May 27, interviews will be conducted at Karisa Maitha Stadium in Kilifi.

Mombasa interviews are scheduled for Wednesday, May 28, at Mama Ngina Drive. The final round of interviews will take place on Thursday, May 29, at the Diani Showground in Kwale.

CS Mutua emphasised that the recruitment will operate on a first-come, first-served basis, and encouraged applicants to arrive early and come fully prepared.

Representatives from the Youth Fund will be present to provide financial assistance for airfare, medical costs, service fees, and documentation. Additionally, NTSA officials will be available for motorcycle rider licensing and quality checks.

Officials from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) will also be on-site to facilitate the processing of Certificates of Good Conduct. The Labour Ministry will oversee the coordination and management of the entire recruitment exercise.
