Labour and Social Protection Cabinet Secretary Alfred Mutua has announced 1,100 job opportunities for nannies and motorcycle riders in Saudi Arabia and Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).

For motorcycle riders, the CS announced on Thursday, December 5 that officials from a United Arab Emirates company will be in the country to conduct interviews and hire the riders.

600 positions will be on offer for the rider jobs in the Middle Eastern city, with aspiring applicants required to have the following qualifications:

  1. A valid Kenyan passport or proof of an eCitizen application in progress.
  2. A current Certificate of Good Conduct or proof of an eCitizen application in progress.
  3. A valid rider’s license.

"Experience is not mandatory but is an added advantage. (Bodaboda riders are highly encouraged to apply.) Successful candidates will undergo four months of training in Dubai, during which the company will assist them in obtaining UAE riding licenses," announced the CS.

In terms of income, Mutua stated that successful candidates who will be able to travel and work in Dubai will make at least Ksh104,000 per month, tax-free, which comes in addition to free accommodation, comprehensive medical care, provision of a motorbike by the company, and a work visa.

"Riders will earn 7.5 dirhams per delivery trip. The minimum daily average is 15 trips, translating to 112.5 dirhams per day. For 26 working days a month, this totals 2,925 dirhams (approximately 104,000 Kenyan shillings, tax-free). Riders with initiative can make upwards of 30 deliveries per day, increasing their earnings," he said.

The CS also outlined financial requirements totalling Ksh167,900 that each successful candidate will have to meet as the company does not cover pre-arrival costs. The estimated charges are Ksh81,400 payment to the Human Resource (HR) provider in Dubai, Ksh40,000 airfare, Ksh16,500 non-refundable medical fee which must be paid upfront, and Ksh 30,000 processing fees.

Banks are aligned to offer loans to cover these costs, allowing employees to repay once they begin working in Dubai. Furthermore, the medical fee is paid first, and the remaining costs can be settled after passing the medicals, a matter aimed at ensuring no unnecessary losses.

Interviews in Nairobi will be held on December 9, 10, and 11, 2024, at Kamukunji TVC, next to Kamukunji Primary, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. In Malindi, interviews will be held on December 13 and 14, 2024, at Kilifi North TVC, Watamu Town, next to Watamu Primary, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

"Successful applicants must be ready to travel to Dubai before the end of the year. I encourage all hustlers, especially bodaboda riders, to seize this opportunity and try their luck," he added.

Nannies

Mutua also announced job opportunities for nannies in Saudi Arabia. This is different from a househelp as this will entail the provision of child care in a family setting whereas a housemaid is employed to do housework which includes cleaning.

For this case, the CS announced that a Saudi Arabian Human Resource team is currently in Kenya seeking to employ 500 Nannies for their company, but on condition that they meet the following qualifications:

  1. Any type of certificate/diploma/graduate with at least 1 year of child care experience.
  2. Female candidates only.
  3. Responsibilities include:
  4. Helping children with mobility and general welfare.
  5. Feeding and bathing children as needed.
  6. Supervising and assisting children with homework.
  7. Introducing children to the English language.

Applicants are required to be clean, well-dressed, smart, and articulate with excellent English communication skills as well as hold a valid Kenyan passport or have an eCitizen application in progress.

They should also have a current Certificate of Good Conduct or proof of an eCitizen application in progress, and submit a CV and recommendation letter. Additional certifications (e.g., First Aid) are a significant advantage.

Successful applicants will have duties which are child-focused only with no housemaid responsibilities involved. They will take home a monthly salary of 1,200 to 1,500 Riyals (approximately Ksh41,000 - Ksh52,000), which is tax-free.

They will also receive free accommodation and three meals a day, free transport to and from work and full medical care provided. In the event one is unsatisfied with their assigned family, they will be reassigned.

Applicants will be required to part with a non-refundable medical fee of Ksh13,500, but the company will cover all pre-arrival costs, including visas and tickets.

Interviews will be held in Nairobi on December 6, 2024, at The Nairobi National Polytechnic, Mogira Road (opposite Pangani Police Station) from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM. "Successful applicants should be ready to travel to Saudi Arabia before the end of the year or early next year," announced CS Mutua.
