Comedian Walter Onchonga Mong'are a.k.a 'Nyambane' has been dismissed from his role as Director of Programmes (Advocacy & Outreach) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

This was announced on Wednesday, April 3 by Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary, Korir Sing'oei in an official memo.

"This is to inform you that Mr. Walter Onchonga Mongáre, Director of Programmes (Advocacy & Outreach) is no longer authorized to act in any capacity on behalf of the State Department or myself," Sing'oei announced in part.

The PS also instructed all director generals and heads of Departments, Divisions and Units to refrain from interacting with Nyambane in an official capacity.

"This is, therefore, to instruct you to refrain, with immediate effect, from any official interactions and/or engagement with Mr Mongáre," he added in the memo copied to Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign Affairs CS Musalia Mudavadi.

However, the reason for Nyambane's dismissal was not immediately disclosed.

Prior to his now-former role, Nyambane served as the Director and Youth Advisor to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He previously served as a Director of Communications, Nairobi City County, Communications and Diaspora Affairs Advisor to the First Governor of Kisii County, Group Head of Radio Services at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation among other senior management positions in the corporate space.

The Communications and Advocacy Expert is a former Comedian, Music Lover and an accomplished Performing Artist with a few hits to his name under the Nyambane's Sweet Banana album released in the early 2000s.

He is also famously known for his comedic acts, primarily mimicking former President Daniel Moi in the hit show Redykyulass.

He also ventured into politics when he announced his presidential bid in the August 2022 General Election under the Umoja Summit Party.

He was the first candidate to be cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on May 30, 2022.

His candidature was initially approved by the IEBC but revoked days later because of the lack of a physical Degree Certificate in his submission.
