Jubilee Picks Matiang'i As Deputy Party Leader
The party further endorsed Matiang’i as its flagbearer for the 2027 General Election.
The Jubilee Party has named former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as its new Deputy Party Leader.
In a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held on October 30, the party further endorsed Matiang’i as its flagbearer for the 2027 General Election.
The announcement follows earlier remarks by the party’s Secretary General, Jeremiah Kioni, who had indicated that Jubilee would rally behind Matiang’i in the upcoming presidential race.
“We have officially received and endorsed Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s presidential application, and the NEC has resolved that he will be our flagbearer,” Kioni announced, adding, “Dr. Fred Matiang’i will serve as our Deputy Party Leader moving forward.”
He explained that the NEC meeting addressed major issues regarding the party’s structure and long-term strategy, emphasizing plans to boost Jubilee’s grassroots operations.
The party aims to rejuvenate its network by reopening branches, re-engaging existing members, and recruiting new supporters, with a lineup of activities set to roll out in the coming weeks.
During the same session, several leadership positions were filled — Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was named National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen assumed the role of Senate Whip.
Earlier in October, Matiang’i officially declared his entry into the Jubilee Party. “I am declaring openly that I have joined Jubilee. As we said during the NDC, it’s time to join the Jubilee Party,” he stated.
During the National Delegates Conference (NDC) held on September 26 and attended by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Matiang’i’s presence signaled his readiness to take up the role of Jubilee’s presidential flagbearer after months of speculation.
Sources indicated that Uhuru had been grooming him to restore the party’s former influence by running for the presidency in 2027.
Matiang’i, who has never held an elective position, reportedly resigned from his World Bank Latin America post to fully commit to his presidential bid.
