Upon his arrival, Kalonzo is expected to join Odinga’s family, friends, and fellow Kenyans in mourning and paying tribute to the late former Prime Minister.
10-Day UK Visit
On October 2, Kalonzo announced plans for a 10-day visit to the United Kingdom beginning Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
The trip followed his endorsement by the Wiper Party as a presidential candidate and was aimed at strengthening his international profile ahead of the 2027 General Election.
During the visit, he was scheduled to engage with top institutions, Kenyan diaspora groups, and policymakers in a series of high-level meetings and events designed to build both domestic and global political momentum.
According to Senator Abdalla Shakila, Kalonzo had also arranged a meeting with officials from the Commonwealth Secretariat as part of his itinerary.
“This visit is part of Wiper’s ongoing strategy to build international partnerships, elevate Kenya’s global presence, and engage Kenyans abroad on critical issues including governance, economic empowerment, and national renewal,” Abdalla said.
Before the Wednesday events, the visit was to see Kalonzo leave his Ukambani turf isolated temporarily, and come on the same day President William Ruto was set to begin his development tour of the region ahead of the Mashujaa Day celebrations on October 20.
President Ruto, on his part, had announced during a State House address that he would postpone "all my public engagements for the coming days to join the nation in this period of mourning and deep reflection."
