Kiambu gubernatorial candidate, Moses Kuria, has dragged Murang’a woman representative Sabina Chege, into the saga surrounding the mysterious murder of former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ICT manager Chris Msando in 2017.

Kuria claimed in a statement on Sunday, July 31 that Chege's friends had furnished his faction with information regarding Msando's whereabouts prior to the 2017 general elections.

He added that he was returning from a campaign trail in Murang'a County in 2017 alongside Chege and President Uhuru Kenyatta when they got wind of the information on the slain IEBC boss' location.

While noting that both he and Chege recorded statements with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), he questioned on why investigating agencies never approached the duo with questions on the matter, in a way absolving himself from the blame.

"The night we found Musando's vehicle at Roysambu, we had come from Muranga campaigning for Uhuru Kenyatta with Sabina Chege.

"In fact, we were tipped off by her friends. Both of us recorded statements with DCI Nairobi Area. How come no one ever asks her or Uhuru who killed him (Msando)?" he posed.

Kuria was responding to an NTV investigative piece on the matter, explaining how the case was left unresolved after investigations had hit a dead end.

Msando, who oversaw the electoral body's ICT unit, vanished, and his body was eventually discovered at the City Mortuary. However, hours after he went missing, the Gatundu South lawmaker was one of the first people to discover his car in Roysambu, Nairobi County.

He had shared an image of him posing beside Msando's car and captioned it "an idiot having a good time with a lady".

The post, which has since been deleted, had sparked a public uproar as a section of Kenyans believed he had a role to play in Msando's death, claims Kuria later denied in a press conference.

Msando's body was discovered four days later in Kikuyu alongside the remains of a young woman whose identity was eventually determined to be Carol Ngumbu.

He had barely been in the position for two months when his predecessor was fired for failing to work with the audit company hired to purge the voter list.

Msando was murdered just days before the general elections on August 8, 2017, and he expressed confidence that the elections would not be manipulated since the electronic voting system he had helped build could not be hacked.
