Moses Kuria, a senior advisor within the Council of Economic Advisors, has formally resigned from the government, concluding his service in President William Ruto’s administration, where he held several prominent positions.

In a statement posted on his verified X account on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, Kuria disclosed that he had a personal meeting with President Ruto, who respectfully accepted his decision to resign.

“This evening, I met my boss and my friend, President William Ruto. The president has graciously accepted my decision to resign from government,” Kuria stated.

Kuria, who initially served as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade, and Industry for 11 months before being reassigned to the Public Service, Delivery, and Performance Management portfolio for an additional 9 months, expressed pride in his role in advancing the administration’s flagship economic agenda.

He, however, did not reveal exactly his next course of action or what made him resign from the State House role, though indicating that he would be pursuing personal interests.

“I thank President Ruto for having given me an opportunity to serve as Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry for 11 months; Public Service, Delivery and Performance Management for 9 months; and Senior Economic Advisor for the last 10 months,” he added.

"As I move on to pursue personal interests, I am proud of the work the President and I did to implement the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda, which I designed together with the President as our 2022 Electoral Platform. Long Live Kenya."

Kuria’s resignation came just hours after he posted a cryptic message on his X bio stating, “There will be no elections in 2027.”

He did not immediately clarify whether the remark represented his personal view, a political tactic, or an indication of the government’s stance.

When Kuria was appointed to the role on August 23, 2024, the role was expected to leverage his extensive experience to bolster the implementation of the Bottom Up Economic Agenda (BETA) plan.

As a Senior Advisor, Kuria provided high-level economic guidance and strategic advice, contributing to the formulation and execution of policies intended to invigorate Kenya’s economic landscape.

At the time, Kuria had lost his Cabinet position following the Gen-Z-led protests in 2024, which prompted President Ruto to dismiss his entire Cabinet.

Kuria’s resignation represents a notable political shift within the Kenya Kwanza administration, occurring amid growing public pressure over governance challenges, youth-driven protests, and fears of increasing authoritarianism.

So far, State House and the Office of the President have not issued any official response to his departure or his controversial comments about the 2027 elections.
