Malava Member of Parliament (MP) Malulu Injendi is dead. National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula confirmed his demise on Monday, February 17.

According to Wetangula, in his message seen and verified by Viral Tea, Injendi passed away at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi after weeks of hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

"Hon. Members, it is with profound sadness that I inform you of the demise of our esteemed colleague, the Hon. Moses Malulu Injendi, who left us this evening, 17th February 2025, at 5.15 pm at Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi. He was the Member for Malava Constituency and Vice Chairman of the Departmental Committee on Education & Research," the message read in part.

As per Wetangula's statement, Injendi was serving his 3rd term as a Member of the House, having served continuously since 2013 (11th Parliament).

The Speaker mourned him as a dedicated and passionate representative who served his constituents with unwavering commitment and integrity.

"His tireless efforts and contribution to our legislative processes particularly the Education sector and sugar industry aimed at improving the lives of Kenyan people will be deeply missed," he added.

"As we come to terms with this great loss, let us remember Hon. Injendi for his remarkable service and the positive impact he had on our nation. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, constituents and all those who had the privilege of knowing him."

Whereas his cause of death was yet to be made public, the legislator was reportedly enduring breathing problems in the days leading up to his passing.

In January, rumours spread that he had passed away, but his family, through Kakamega Governor Fernandes Barasa, quickly dismissed the claims, clarifying that the MP was undergoing treatment. When pressed for details about the lawmaker’s condition, Governor Barasa declined to disclose specifics, stating that he was only authorized to provide an update on his status.

A member of Musalia Mudavadi's Amani National Congress (ANC), Injendi was serving his third term in Parliament since 2013—a testament to the electorate's confidence in his leadership.

Known for his bold and outspoken nature, Injendi earned respect for his willingness to challenge issues he disagreed with. As recently as November 2024, he criticized the church for rejecting cash donations from President William Ruto.

Injendi notably apologized to the President on behalf of the Church, asserting that it was disgraceful for the Nairobi Archdiocese leadership to refuse the President’s donations.

''We were ashamed and I would like to appeal to our bishops that you cannot do what you did to the President. May God forgive and bless you,’’ he told the President, adding that the rejection of the donations was improper since the church was in need of financial resources.

In 2019, Injendi, a University of Nairobi alumnus, made headlines by proposing a law that would require Facebook and WhatsApp group administrators to register with the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) before creating such groups.

Injendi's death is the second such loss in both Parliament and Senate. On Sunday, February 16, Baringo Senator William Cheptumo died at the age of 57 while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.
