Senator William Cheptumo Dies
President William Ruto mourned Senator Cheptumo as a progressive leader who was dedicated to public service.

Baringo Senator William Cheptumo is dead. Cheptumo passed away while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi has announced.
Kingi stated, "With profound shock and grief, I have learnt of the untimely demise of Hon William Kipkorir Cheptumo, Senator of Baringo County at Nairobi Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment."
The Speaker mourned Senator Cheptumo as a dedicated leader, who took up his legislative responsibilities with unmatched zeal and selflessly articulated the interests of the people of Baringo and Kenyans at large.
"The Senate of Kenya has lost a leader who firmly believed in Devolution and used every opportunity to advance its cause and the welfare of Kenyans. I join his family, the people of Baringo County and Kenyans, in mourning a great leader and pray that God grants us all grace and fortitude to bear this monumental loss. May his soul rest in perfect peace," added Kingi.

On his part, President William Ruto mourned Senator Cheptumo as a progressive leader who was dedicated to public service.
"He was vocal, hardworking and a tireless champion for the transformation of Baringo. The Cheptumo family, friends and the people of Baringo County are in our thoughts and prayers. Rest In Peace, Mheshimiwa," he wrote.
Viral Tea has since learnt that Cheptumo passed away on Sunday morning, February 16 while undergoing treatment. He was struggling with an undisclosed illness at the time of his demise.
According to his family, he had been unwell for a while before his passing. A family member mentioned that he was discharged from the hospital last week, but his health worsened, leading to his readmission.
His body was transferred to Lee Funeral Home. The 57-year-old was a lawyer who served as the Member of Parliament for Baringo North from 2008 to 2013.
In the 2022 General Election, he was elected as the UDA party senator representing Baringo County, defeating KANU party chairman Gideon Moi. He chaired the Senate National Security, Defense, and Foreign Relations Committee.
Cheptumo was also the founder of the Cheptumo and Company Advocates law firm. Previously, he worked as a legal officer for the Central Bank of Kenya and the Industrial and Commercial Development Corporation.
He graduated from the University of Nairobi with a Bachelor's degree in Law and obtained a postgraduate diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
His early education began at Maregut Primary School, where he studied from 1975 to 1981 and obtained his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE).
He attended Bartolimo Secondary School for his lower secondary education from 1982 to 1985. In 1986, he proceeded to the renowned Kabarnet High School for his upper secondary studies.
