The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has named former National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Chief Executive Officer Anthony Omerikwa as its new CEO.

According to a statement seen by Viral Tea, NACADA welcomed Omerikwa at their offices, who now takes over from Prof. John Muteti who was the Authority’s acting CEO.

"The Authority has this morning welcomed the new CEO Dr. Anthony Omerikwa who has officially taken over from the immediate Acting CEO Prof. John Muteti. The ceremony was presided over by the Board Chairman Stephen Kiptoem Mairori," the statement read in part.

"Prof. Muteti reverts to his substantive position of Director, Policy and Planning at the Authority. Karibu sana to the campaign Daktari!"

Omwrikwa's tenure at the helm of NSSF came to an end on November 21, 2022, leaving behind the trust with a net asset of Ksh295 billion after serving it for over seven years as its CEO and Managing Trustee.

The outgoing CEO joined the trust 11 years ago as a manager, rising to the ranks of operational manager.

In 2015, Omerikwa was appointed Acting Chief Executive Officer until 2019, when he was appointed fully to the position.

"NSSF has had its share of legacy issues in the past, and the CEO position was highly publicised as a "revolving door" with a high turnover. As I end my tenure, I am happy to report the following notable achievements," Omerikwa revealed in a press statement.

The NSSF board appointed David Mwangangi as the acting CEO, a day after his exit. The board in May 2023 recommended the appointment of David Koros as the new managing Trustee of the fund after emerging top in the interviews before it was stopped by the Employment and Labour Relations Court temporarily in June.

Muteti was named NACADA's Acting CEO, with Mairori indicating that Muteti would be instrumental in steering the Authority’s mandate.

Mairori expressed confidence in Muteti who was set to bring to the table a wealth of over 30 years of experience from the academia, private and public sectors.

Prof. Muteti holds a Doctorate degree in Strategic Management from Nelson Mandela University, South Africa.

He also has a Master's degree in Economics and Social Studies from the University of Manchester, UK, a Post Graduate Diploma in Social Studies from Victorian University, Manchester, a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Management from Bradford University, UK and a degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

His appointment took effect on Monday, May 15 and served in place of Victor Okioma who retired after serving his five-year term before the position was set to be filled competitively.
