Merely hours after Fridah Mwende, alias Mwende Frey, the owner of the hugely popular Man's Chamber Barbershop and Spa at Kamaki's along the Eastern Bypass in Ruiru, Kiambu County called out online trolls demeaning her business, comedian Timothy Kimani, alias Njugush, saw the opportunity to capitalise on her faults.

Amidst most netizens responding with messages of encouragement to Mwende after she lamented persistent attacks on her and her business, Njugush took to X to highlight a purported case of double standards on her part.

He shared a screenshot of an X post on July 11, 2023, whereby Mwende had accused him of allegedly summoning his fan base and friends in the Kenyan showbiz and entertainment scene to defend him from a flood of online trolls.

"Njugush anashtuliwa na banter ya (scared of banter from) Twitter (now X) hadi all those celebs come to defend him. Twitter is not for the weak...that's IG,” Mwende had told Njugush.

At the time, Njugush had just released the 4th instalment of his Through Thick and Thick stand-up comedy show.

He further attached a photoshopped image of his face surrounded by a brood of chickens inside a large-scale coop as a form of showcasing his sarcastic consolation for the frustration Mwende was now facing.

In a video seen by Viral Tea which she shared on her X (formerly Twitter) account, Mwende revealed that despite her having developed a personal resistance to the trolls, she lamented waking up every day to derogatory comments on the social media platform, some have gone to the extent of demeaning her viral barbershop business.

According to her, the trolls were damaging as some of the bullies happened to be people she had helped out of tough ordeals in the past.

"You scroll the timeline and it's just people making fun of your business and that's what hurts me. People I have helped, people I have been there for...when they were hungry, others locked out of their homes.

"I have been there for you guys and you're trolling my business. You can troll me all you want but why are you trolling my business, what's wrong with you KOX?" she lamented in tears.

Mwende further lamented that she cannot face up to the trolls in person as much as she would have wanted to, hence her anger on the matter.

Instead, she appealed to them to change their habits, making it crystal clear that she began her barbershop business out of passion and not to chase clout.

"You guys need to change. People do a lot to keep their businesses pushing. For me, this is not about profits and it's not about clout. I can stop working and I won't struggle a day.

"I'm married and I'm okay but for me, this is a passion. I want to build something for myself and I want to have an impact in life. Some of us feel like if we don't have an impact in life, you've not done anything worthwhile," she went on, adding that her Man's Chamber Barbershop was not just an ordinary business.

Despite the encouraging messages from netizens advising her to keep progressing with her business and ignoring the trolls, some drew attention to the contrast between Mwende's current call for a change in behaviour and her past remarks akin to those directed at her by online trolls.

"It is very hard to sympathise with her given how much she trolls people here! I don't know what she expected to achieve by sharing that video but he who comes into equity must come with clean hands," Gachambi Nderitu retorted.
