ODM To Hold Raila Odinga Memorials Across The Country

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has announced a series of nationwide memorials to honour the late Raila Odinga, giving Kenyans a chance to celebrate his life and political legacy.

The events will be held in major towns across the country, beginning in Kilifi County on November 2 and 3, before moving to Homa Bay and Migori on November 5 and 6.

According to ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, the memorials will allow the party to connect with citizens who were inspired by Raila’s leadership and vision.

"That in line with the demands of millions of Kenyans whose lives he touched, the party will hold memorial services in many different parts of the country to enable these many admirers to interact with his sudden departure," announced Sifuna.

In addition, the party revealed plans to mark its 20th anniversary under the theme “ODM at 20”, with celebrations scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Mombasa County.

The milestone event will pay tribute to Raila’s pivotal role in shaping both the party’s identity and Kenya’s broader democratic transformation.

Party Leadership and Demands

Further, following a Central Committee meeting chaired by acting party leader Oburu Odinga, ODM demanded that the National Treasury release the Ksh12.6 billion owed to the party under the Political Parties Fund — money it says has been withheld for several years despite legal entitlement.

The party called for the immediate disbursement of the funds, describing it as a matter of fairness and a fitting honour to Raila Odinga’s lifelong advocacy for transparency and accountability in governance.

ODM further warned that the delay has crippled its operations nationwide and urged the government to respect the Political Parties Act.

“The government has failed to release monies owed to ODM. We are demanding that the funds be released as required by law and in honour of the departed comrade Raila Odinga,” the statement read in part. 

The committee also endorsed Oburu Odinga as interim party leader and announced a nationwide grassroots consolidation campaign ahead of the 2027 General Election, pledging to uphold Raila’s values of unity, integrity, and people-centered leadership as it enters a new chapter.
