Police on Monday, April 10 launched investigations into the death of a passenger which occurred at the waiting lounge at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), Nairobi.

The 43-year-old passenger's body was found at the waiting bay after he showed up on Saturday night, April 8 waiting to board a plane bound for Mombasa.

According to police, the deceased had checked in at the lounge in preparation for his flight, but he failed to show up at the plane as expected. Officials at a local airline had even called his name several times in vain, asking him to board the aircraft.

The staffers were then prompted to confirm and went back to the lounge, only to find him lying motionless after he had taken one of the seats in the waiting lounge and holding his travel bag.

It was at this point that the airline's clinical officers were summoned to check on him. Upon the arrival and immediate observation, the passenger was pronounced dead.

Police were yet to establish the cause of death but they had informed the family of the deceased.

"We traced the family and informed them of the tragedy. We have launched a probe into the incident to establish what could have led to his death," police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and further legal processes.

On September 14, 2022, Baringo Deputy Governor Charles Kipng'ok collapsed and died at JKIA shortly after he boarded a plane.

While confirming the incident, Baringo Governor Benjamin Cheboi revealed that Kipng'ok was to join other leaders for the Council of Governors induction in Mombasa.

He also appreciated the acting Director General for Health, Dr Patrick Amoth who was also a passenger on the flight and had tried to revive the deputy governor, but his efforts bore no fruit.

“It is a loss to us. We were just preparing to start the business of building our great county of Baringo,” the governor stated.
