UPDATE: Communication strategist and blogger, Pauline Njoroge, has been produced at the Malindi Law Courts, with photos showing her in the courtroom alongside her friend, Jane Mwangi Nduta.

Her lawyers had earlier had a difficult time trying to have them produced in court after police informed them that they were acting on orders from above not to produce them in court.

Communication strategist and blogger, Pauline Njoroge is still being held by police in Watamu, Kilifi County alongside two others, and are yet to be produced in court as earlier expected.

Speaking to the media, Pauline’s lawyers led by Ndegwa Njiru revealed that their inquiries at the Watamu police station stalled after the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) informed them that they were under strict instructions not to produce them in court.

Njiru cited orders from above that were yet to be implemented, which barred the police from producing Njoroge and her co-accused in court.

"We are aware that there were other arrested persons from the same station in Watamu who have been produced in court. But our clients are still being held in police cells.

"We have been told that there are orders from above that are yet to be taken, we do not know which above is this. The OCS is still not able to make a decision on who should authorise that Pauline be produced in court," said the lawyer.

Njiru further revealed that there are no registration records at the Malindi Law Courts to show that they will appear in court.

The team, which also includes lawyers Suleiman Lempaa and Sophia Rajab struggled to have their clients be produced in court.

Njoroge alongside Jane Mwangi Nduta and Emanze Jilani were arrested on Saturday, July 22 after the car they were travelling in was intercepted by detectives along the Watamu- Jakaranda road. They were allegedly found in possession of narcotics drugs upon search of the car and their hotel rooms.

According to a police report seen by Viral Tea, officers drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had been trailing Njoroge and intercepted the motor vehicle reg number KCV 116T, a Toyota Hiace where they recovered four rolls of dry plants material suspected to be narcotic drugs.

“A further search was conducted at their residence at Mawe Zuri resort house number Tatu which was occupied by Jane Mwangi and a clear container containing ten (10) tablets suspected to be narcotic substances was recovered and in house number Nine which was occupied by Pauline Njoki Njoroge, a clear container containing 50 (fifty) tablets suspected to be narcotic substances was also recovered.

“All suspects were booked and placed in custody to be charged with the offence of being in possession of Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances,” the report stated.

Njoroge's lawyers however dismissed the report, noting that she was in no point in possession of any narcotic substance.

Jubilee Party and Azimio Coalition, in defence of Njoroge, claimed that she was detained owing to her constant criticism of President William Ruto's government, especially on social media.
