Raila's Bodyguard Maurice Ogeta To Get Govt Job: Ruto
Ruto commended Ogeta and Raila’s security team for their steadfast dedication over the years.
President William Ruto has revealed that his administration will offer a government position to Maurice Ogeta, the longtime bodyguard of the late Raila Odinga, as a recognition of his loyalty and service to the opposition leader.
Speaking during Raila’s funeral at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University in Bondo, Ruto commended Ogeta and Raila’s security team for their steadfast dedication over the years.
“I must thank his security people, Maurice Ogeta especially, for standing with Raila always. I remember him in our days in ODM when he would even wipe our shoes when we came late for campaigns,” the President said.

He further assured that the government would look after those who worked closely with Raila, acknowledging their contribution to the legacy of one of Kenya’s most prominent political figures.
“Maurice, I want to tell you that as this government preserves Raila’s legacy, we will also take care of you and all those who looked after him,” Ruto affirmed.
His remarks drew applause from mourners, who saw the move as a show of respect for Raila’s devoted aides who accompanied him through his long political journey until his passing in India.
According to Raila’s elder brother, Ogeta was not just a personal aide but also a nephew to the former Prime Minister, a relationship that deepened the bond and trust between them over the years.
Ogeta and Raila’s Final Days
Ogeta accompanied Raila to India, where he eventually passed away. During that period, he was visibly emotional and had to be comforted by members of the Kenyan delegation handling the repatriation of Raila’s body.
He was later seen in tears during the public viewing at Parliament and again in Kisumu, moments that highlighted his devotion and long-standing service to Raila.
Known for his calmness and loyalty, Ogeta appeared deeply affected throughout the proceedings, struggling to contain his emotions despite trying to remain composed.
Ogeta’s Tribute to Raila
In his written tribute, Ogeta described Raila as a mentor, father, and comrade.
“Jakom, that the commitment in the years-old service to and under you, and the undeniably very close nexus that blossomed to both comradeship of trust and a near-son relationship, have seen me grow into what I am today in the Leadership space, can neither be gainsaid nor overstressed,” he wrote.
“From the opportunity you entrusted to me as your Personal Aide for close to 18 years, I confess I know no other human being on the African continent came close to you as the First Among Equals on the quest for a freer and more equal continent, outside Nelson Mandela."
