Kileleshwa Member of County Assembly (MCA) Robert Alai has fired back at a local investor who accused him of unlawfully occupying land in Runda, linking the allegations to a smear campaign against him on social media.

In a statement on June 30, Alai alleged that both the investor and his lawyer had been running an online effort to tarnish his reputation since the matter went to court. He further criticised The Standard newspaper for echoing the same claims.

"I wish to address you today regarding the ongoing legal dispute in the Environment and Land Court, Nairobi, initiated by the investor against me and others," he addressed in part.

"I am compelled to speak out due to the persistent campaign of trolling, defamation, bullying, and public shaming orchestrated through social media platforms like X and mainstream media outlets."

In his statement, Alai argued that these parties were likely fueling the online attacks to sway the court process and influence rulings through public pressure instead of solid legal grounds.

He went on to question the complainant’s confidence in the justice system, casting doubt on his integrity. According to Alai, the plaintiff had previously mobilised 500 hired goons to destroy property on the disputed land while the case was still active in court.

He also claimed the complainant had enlisted at least six other people to carry out illegal acts, including intimidating both Alai and the judiciary to tilt the court’s decision in his favour.

Alai insisted he had fully complied with all legal procedures so far, urging his accuser to do the same to avoid further lawsuits and keep his case on track.

"I say this: the matter is sub judice, and your grievances must be prosecuted within the confines of the courtroom, not through media trials or social media lynching. Engaging in defamatory, libellous, or bullying behaviour will not advance your case.

"Still, it may expose you to legal consequences under Kenya's laws, including the Defamation Act and the Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act. I urge you to cease these actions immediately and focus on presenting your evidence before the court," he added.

Alai expressed complete confidence in the Judiciary to adjudicate the matter fairly and conclusively. "I have complied with all court orders, including the temporary injunction issued on 19th May 2025, and have filed my responses within the stipulated timelines. I trust that the court will address the Plaintiff's claims, which include significant evidential gaps and procedural inconsistencies, as noted in prior proceedings," he added.

A few days back, a video emerged online showing the investor accusing the MCA of evicting him from his property, while his lawyer alleged that the investor was assaulted during the incident.

The investor maintained that despite owning the land for 33 years, Alai and his associates forcibly removed him, prompting him to take the matter to court.
