Several people are feared dead after an accident involving a school bus that was believed to be ferrying followers of Prophet Owuor at Ekerenyo in Nyamira County.

Reports indicated that the bus belonging to Moi Suba Girls Secondary School rammed at several Kiosks erected along the highway before rolling several times.

In a graphical video eyewitness shared on social media and seen by Viral Tea, several locals milled around the scene of the accident as others moved to rescue those that might have been trapped in the bus.

As for the bus, it was badly damaged after it rolled severally during the crash.

The followers were headed to Nakuru for the Ministry of Repentance and Holiness of Prophet David Owuor, End Year celebrations, a mega crusade held every year in the city.

The crusade which will be held at Menengai grounds, Nakuru West from Friday, December 30 all through to usher in the New Year 2023 is expected to bring with it an influx of people from all over the country.

Members of the Ministry of Repentance and holiness have since started to trickle into the city with their signature attires of suits and ties for men and long coat robes for women. Business people are expecting that they will gain as the year closes to compensate for what they stated was a slow Christmas season businesswise.

This is due to the big number of people always characterized by the meetings of Prophet Owuor which are highly publicized.

The cause of the accident by the time of publishing was yet to be established as well as the number of those who died on the spot and injuries.

It comes hours after several people escaped death by a whisker following a multiple-car crash along the Nairobi-Naivasha highway involving a Western-bound Climax bus.

The accident involved 5 vehicles; a bus, a 14-seater matatu registered under 2 NK shuttle, a Probox, a Toyota Vitz and another car. The overspeeding Probox was overtaking the Vitz when the multi-accident occurred.

The Probox and the Vitz were heading to Nairobi while the Climax bus and the 2NK matatu were travelling to Naivasha from Nairobi.

On the same day, two people were killed on Thursday, December 29 following a road accident involving a lorry and pick-up along the Kenol-Murang'a Road.

Two male occupants of the pickup died on the spot, however, the driver of the lorry and his turn boy escaped unhurt.

Transport CS Kipchumba Murkomen revealed on Tuesday, December 20 that the number of Kenyans who died in road accidents in 2022, which he said was more than those of COVID-19. According to him, 4,449 people lost their lives in the last year, a three per cent increase from 2021 when there were 4,271 cases.

CS Murkomen continued by breaking down the cases, noting that there were 403 driver fatalities overall, 1,190 motorcycle riders, and 1,595 pedestrians. In the same 2022 time frame, 1,204 passengers died.
