The United States (US) Embassy in Nairobi has congratulated the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the manner in which the August 9, 2022, general elections were held.

In a statement on Monday, August 15, the embassy lauded the IEBC for conducting a peaceful and orderly electoral and vote tallying process.

They also commended the active participation of Kenya's political parties, civil society and citizens in shaping robust discussions throughout the campaign period.

They termed the election of William Ruto as president as an important milestone in the electoral process.

"Going forward, we urge all parties to work together to peacefully resolve any remaining concerns about this election through existing dispute resolution mechanisms.  We ask all political party leaders to continue to urge their supporters to remain peaceful and refrain from violence during the electoral process.

"The United States and Kenya share a strong partnership. We work together to improve healthcare, promote peace and security in the region, advance respect for human rights, and strengthen our economies," it stated, adding that it looks forward to continuing to enhance its partnership with the people and government of Kenya.

At the same time, the National Police Service (NPS) commended Kenyans for their conduct during the electioneering period and for having peaceful polls.

“The National Police Service (NPS) congratulates Kenyans on the exercise of their constitutional right to vote, which they did by turning up in their numbers to elect their leaders,” Inspector General of Police (IG) Hilary Mutyambai said.

Mutyambai urged Kenyans to continue observing law and order and maintain peace and calm even after the declaration.

“We also thank the people of Kenya for having maintained calm and peace and generally observed law and order since the election day to this day. Kenyans are requested to keep the peace and to continue observing law and order even after today's declaration of the presidential election results,” the IG noted.

The IG advised Kenyans to remain united because elections are seasonal, but Kenya is for eternity.

“They are not meant to divide or tear us apart. We must remain together, for Kenya is greater than any one of us. In the words of our National Anthem, may we dwell in unity, peace and liberty,” he added.
