Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman, Wafula Chebukati arrives at Bomas of Kenya but was whisked away after chaos broke out at the auditorium.

At the Bomas a section of politicians blocked Chebukati from addressing the media. He was assaulted before being whisked away from the venue under heavy security.

The anti-riot police officers formed a shield around him as gadgets and other equipment were thrown at him.

Meanwhile, four out of the seven IEBC Commissioners led by Vice-Chairperson Juliana Cherera issued a statement at Serena Hotel at the same time. Cherera and the four commissioners accused IEBC of opaqueness.

"We are not at the Bomas of Kenya because we cannot take ownership of the results that are going to be announced because of the opaque nature in which these results have been handled," she said.

The IEBC Vice chairperson added that the aggrieved parties in the process are free to seek legal redress.

The events come moments after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's Chief Agent, Saitabao Kanchory alleged that the system used by the IEBC during the August 9 general elections was breached.

Speaking outside the Bomas of Kenya on Monday, August 15, Kanchori alleged that they were yet to be handed Form 34C, which will be used by Chebukati, to declare the winner.

He added that some of the commission's officials had committed offences and some ought to have been arrested.

"We have intelligence reports that their system was penetrated and hacked and that some of the IEBC officials actually committed electoral offences and some of them ought to have been arrested if they were not arrested," he addressed.

"We were not in any position to ask our party leader to come before we actually verify results, which we have not done."

Kanchory added that they did not yet have knowledge about the results that are yet to be released by the commission.

He also claimed that the results were tampered with, even if they go in their favour or not.

"The results that are yet to be released we don't know about them. Whether they favor us or not, those results have been tampered with.

"We are saying we want to see them, once we see them, we want to verify them. Once we verify them, we will be able to know what to tell our people. Because a result that is not verifiable is not a result," he added.
