The Ministry of Education has announced that all schools will close on Friday, October 27, 2023, following the conclusion of the Third Term.

In a statement published on Friday, September 15, Basic Education Principal Secretary, Dr Bello Kipsang revealed that the schools will close at that time to pave the way for the 2023 National Examinations set to start on Monday, October 30, 2023. 

Kipsang further reminded parents to prepare accordingly and work closely with teachers to ensure a smooth examination period for students.

"All schools opened for the Third Term of the 2023 academic calendar on August 28, 2023, which is scheduled to run until October 27, 2023, to pave the way for the national examinations season.

"In the meantime, field officials and institutional administrators are reminded that all school activities involving parents and other stakeholders are not allowed during the Third Term to allow for adequate preparations ahead of the National Examinations that are set to start on 30th October 2023," the statement read in part.

The PS for Basic Education further revealed that the government has put in place measures to ensure that learning goes on uninterrupted during the entirety of the Third Term.

Furthermore, Kipsang revealed that the government will release all funds to schools disbursed by the National Treasury to ensure smooth sailing in terms of the school calendar.

"To ensure the normal running of all school activities, the Ministry of Education has received Ksh16,249,982,722.28 Billion as capitation funds from The National Treasury for disbursement to learners in public Primary, Junior and Secondary schools. These capitation funds will be disbursed as follows," he added.

Junior Secondary Schools will receive Ksh1,758,082,749.00 as capitation funds while Free Primary Education will get Ksh1,562,842,596.88. 

At the same time, Free Day Secondary Education will receive Ksh12,929,057,376.40 in capitation. 

"The Ministry wishes to assure all schools that the funds will be wired to respective school accounts by September 20th, 2023 to facilitate the smooth delivery of targeted learning activities.

"A detailed breakdown on the funds and guidelines on their prudent utilisation have been dispatched to schools in line with Government regulations," the PS added.

In the 2022/2023 Financial Year, the Ministry of Education fully disbursed a total of Ksh89,412,854,755 as capitation for Primary, Junior and Secondary school learning.
