Azimio principal and NARC Kenya party leader, Martha Karua on Sunday, March 26 slammed President William Ruto's claims of being tried as a suspect by the International Criminal Court (ICC) because of standing for party leader Raila Odinga.

Speaking during a church service in Embakasi, Nairobi County, Karua challenged the Head of State to be truthful about why he was listed as a suspect by the ICC, dismissing his claims that he was tried for Raila's sake after his win in the 2007 general elections was robbed.

She believed that Ruto knew exactly why he was summoned alongside leaders allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) to the court based in the Hague, Netherlands.

"I heard Ruto saying that he went to ICC because of fighting for Raila. I want to tell him that there are many people who fought for Raila and didn't go to ICC.

"You went there because of your actions. You were summoned because of what you did so stop mentioning Raila. Even though I fought for Kibaki, I was not taken to the Hague," she stated.

She further warned Ruto against orchestrating crimes against humanity during his state trips to Europe ahead of the Monday, March 27 demonstrations, noting that "If you repeat what you did then, you’ll find yourself in Hague again."

She further accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of allegedly using the National Police Service (NPS) to attack protesters, claiming he was scared of the people yet he claimed he was validly elected President.

"Even if we decide to bring the letter to State House, why are you scared of the people if you claim you were validly elected?

"Why can't you borrow a leaf from presidents of civilized nations? I have neither heard Emmanuel Macron nor Cyril Ramaphosa threatening demonstrators, so why are you and your agents doing so?" she posed.

The 'Iron Lady' further slammed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for associating himself with the Mau Mau fighters who played a part in Kenya's independence.

"Freedom fighters never fought the people but for the people. If your role was to harass the commoners and even forcefully take their property, you must be a product of collaborators, the home guards," she declared.

Speaking in Migori County, the Head of State reminded Raila of the trials and tribulations he went through while supporting Raila to the point of helping him secure the Prime Minister's post after the 2007 General Election during the regime of the late former President Mwai Kibaki.

Ruto pleaded with Raila to support his administration, noting that it was the right thing to do to return the favour. He further wondered when the former Prime Minister would vote for him.

"In 2007, wasn't I the one who led Raila's election? The work we did is the one that made Raila Odinga a Prime Minister. Ever since, has he received any other seat close to that of a Prime Minister?

"I want to ask Raila, I'm the one who supported you and campaigned for you, I even voted for you and held it down for you. With human respect, when will you vote for me?" he posed.
