Korogocho Member of County Assembly (MCA) Absalom Matakwey Mobimba was on Monday, January 30 arrested by officers attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Mobimba was picked up by DCI officers at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) offices in Upper Hill, Nairobi where he was summoned over remarks bordering on incitement.

“We arrived at the commission's headquarters and asked to sign statements. We requested for Wednesday, February 1 for us to come and write the statement. They then left to go and photocopy the documents for us.

"We suspect that it was at this moment that they called the DCI who came in and picked my client,” his lawyer Apollo Mboya told the press.

NCIC had urged the MCA to appear before the commission on Monday, January 30 over the incitement remarks he made on Monday, January 23.

"We have summoned Absalom Odhiambo to record a statement. We are calling upon all leaders to stop actions and rhetorics that can trigger violence.

"We wish to remind Kenyans that the president who is also head of state is the symbol of national unity. Consequently, any actions that undermine the presidency will not only damage national cohesion but will also injure the peace and unity among Kenyans. The president should be accorded respect," the commission said on Friday, January 27.

In a viral video that circulated on social media, the MCA was seen criticizing the leadership of Kenya Kwanza and inciting supporters of Azimio to prepare for industrial action in the capital.

Kwa siasa ya taifa tunataka tutoke twende ikulu tutoe huyo mwizi… Nataka tuingie town, tufunge biashara. Hakuna biashara itaendelea hii town ya Nairobi. Ndio William Ruto aheshimu Raila Odinga lazima tufunge biashara hii town,” he said.

Translated to; "In the politics of the nation, we want to head to State House to remove that thief. I want us to enter the town and close all businesses. There is no business that will go ahead in Nairobi town. So that William Ruto respects Raila Odinga, we must close all businesses in this town."

NCIC Chairperson Samuel Kobia, while responding to comments made by the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition at a Kamukunji rally, also issued a call to action for all elected leaders to show respect towards the Presidency, which serves as a representation of national unity.

Absalom Odhiambo Onyango popularly known as Matakweyi or Matacha on his social media pages vied on the ODM ticket and won the Korogocho Ward seat which was vacant following the death of former MCA veteran Naftali Ogola who passed on in December 2021.
