Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has complained about the ruling made by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula which declared Kenya Kwanza the majority coalition.

Speaking at the SKM command centre in Karen on Tuesday, October 11, Kalonzo advised his long-term friend not to be misled by voices that would hurt his reputation.

He added that some of his decisions have sparked a sense of disharmony in the country.

As a result of the ruling, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition will contest it in court.

"We are going to court to go against that ruling of my friend, Wetangula. He's still my friend even though he occasions disharmony in the country. He knows it, so we're ruling against that so we don't do certain things.

"So Wetangula please, don't be manipulated. You're my friend and we have a history from the times we were tear-gassed together. Don't forget your friend. We must stand for what is truthful and just in this country," he addressed.

The Speaker maintained that in factoring in the post-election formations, Kenya Kwanza was the majority coalition in the National Assembly with 179 MPs against Azimio la Umoja coalition’s 157.

"What is clear from the constitution is that the leader of the majority party must lead either a party or a coalition of parties in the National Assembly. I invite the house to note my emphasis on the word either," he said.

He added that Kenya Kwanza is a coalition of parties with the majority members and as such satisfied the dictates of the law as the bonafide majority side.

The Speaker referred to article 108 of the Constitution which states that the Leader of the Majority Party will be the leader of the largest party or coalition of parties.

He added that in the last general election, it was evident that Azimio elected to behave as several political parties in several categories of election and as one political party as regards the election of the president.

"It is without a doubt that if it were to be considered as a political party, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition Party has no elected member in this house today as no member was elected under its banner," Wetangula stated.
