Bomet Governor Hilary Barchok's official vehicle was on Monday morning, April 15 involved in an accident along the Bomet-Narok Road.

The minor accident occurred between Kipisarwet and Fairhills along the road and involved the county boss's vehicle and a boda boda operator which was carrying a passenger.

The vehicle is said to have hit the rider along the busy road. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported in the incident.

"This morning, there was a minor accident near Fair Hills Hotel along the Narok-Kericho highway involving Bomet Governor H.E Prof. Hillary Barchok's official vehicle and a boda boda operator carrying a passenger," a statement from Barchok's office obtained by Viral Tea read in part.

The boda boda rider escaped unhurt while the passenger on board sustained minor soft tissue injuries and is currently receiving medical attention at Longisa County Referral Hospital.

As per witness accounts, the passenger in question is a bursar at a local school within Bomet County.

According to police reports, the boda boda rider fled the scene after the accident leaving the passenger in critical condition. 

Barchok had extended his heartfelt wishes for a speedy recovery to the patient, and as a result, urged all road users to observe traffic rules and exercise responsibility and caution at all times to prevent such unfortunate occurrences.

Speaking to journalists, the Governor's Press Director, Joy Terer confirmed the incident explaining that the Governor embarked on other activities which he had committed to earlier as captured in his diary.  

"The Governor was not injured and has been engaged in official functions including a meeting with bank managers," she explained.

According to the Bomet Central Police Boss Musa Imamai who confirmed the incident to journalists, the incident occurred after the boda boda rider who was travelling towards Bomet made a U-turn where he was hit by the Governor's vehicle.

This is not the first accident involving politicians. On Tuesday, April 2, Meru County Deputy Speaker Mwenda Ali lost his young daughter in a road accident along the Meru-Embu road which also left him seriously injured.

The speaker was airlifted to Nairobi for treatment. He was travelling to Nairobi from Meru together with his two family members when the tragedy struck.

The accident occurred when Ali's vehicle, a Subaru Legacy burst into flames when it collided head-on with a Toyota double cabin at Kivwe village in Embu county.

His driver and another young girl were also injured during the accident which caused a major traffic snarl-up on the usually busy Highway.
