CCTV footage on Monday, January 16 unmasked the facial identity of the main suspect behind the brutal murder of a 24-year-old woman at an Airbnb residence along TRM Drive in Roysambu along Thika Road in Nairobi.

The footage aired during Citizen TV's prime-time news bulletins revealed the suspect donning a black cardigan, grey skinny jeans and wearing a white cap walking into a shop within the residence behind a woman who was dressed in a pink hoodie.

In the clip captured on Saturday, January 13 at around 4.20 pm, the suspect was seen talking on his phone before entering the shop which was adjacent to the building where the dismembered body parts of the woman, now established to be 20 years of age, was discovered the following day.

Here is the video:

The suspect, who is still yet to be named, walked directly to the cashier, handing him his phone as the cashier handed it back to him, alongside a key.

During the entire short visit to the shop, he was tightly clutching a black bag and wearing spectacles presumably to make it harder for the footage to ascertain his identity.

He was also seen to be in a hurry as he exited the shop in a huff only to return five minutes later to hand the payment to the cashier before leaving, the last time the suspect was captured on camera before the brutal murder.

The suspect was anticipated to return the key on Sunday morning but failed to do so. The manager of the Airbnb where he booked the premises on Saturday at 3 pm disclosed that she received a call from the caretaker after discovering suspicious polythene trash bags which contained the body parts.

Detectives are studying the footage which offered a glimpse of the last whereabouts of the suspect before he allegedly committed the crime.

It is expected that the cashier of the shop might be subject to questioning as the suspect remains at large.

Meanwhile, the remains which were taken to City Mortuary have since been identified positively by the family of the deceased who declined to talk to the media and said they are still waiting for police to conclude investigations.

Furthermore, it was reported that the 20-year-old girl had revealed to a friend that she had gone to have dinner with a friend in Roysambu but failed to turn up a day after and her phone was switched off.

Law enforcement officers were on Sunday seen handling polythene bags and a blood-soaked bedsheet, which was thought to contain the remains of the deceased woman. Preliminary reports indicated that the woman was stabbed and chopped to death.

"Very shocking and sad morning along TRM Drive, Thika Road. A woman has been stabbed & chopped to death in an Airbnb. The killer then stuffed body parts in a paper bag," stated Nation Media Group (NMG) journalist, Leon Lidigu on X (formerly Twitter), who was among the first to report the news of the macabre murder.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Kasarani had arrived at the crime scene and were trying to establish what exactly happened, with investigations launched to establish the motive of the murder.

Jimmy Kimari, the head of Kasarani Divisional Criminal Investigations, who was present at the scene, issued a stern warning of impending crackdowns on Airbnb operators who did not have security cameras installed and urged them to keep detailed guest records.
