The manager of an Airbnb residence along TRM Drive in Roysambu along Thika Road in Nairobi has detailed the last moments before a 24-year-old woman was found brutally murdered on Sunday, January 14.

The Airbnb manager, Risper Muthoni, revealed that a male guest, who is yet to be arrested over the murder, had booked the premises on Saturday, January 13 at 3 p.m.

Muthoni, who addressed the media, revealed that once payment is made, guests are entitled to an uninterrupted stay until the scheduled check-out time, in line with the policy.

The sequence of events came to light when the male guest returned the key early on Sunday morning before abruptly disappearing. It was after this point that the macabre discovery was made.

The caretaker raised the alarm after discovering suspicious polythene bags and a blood-soaked bed sheet on the staircase.

After multiple futile attempts to receive a response, Muthoni and her team gained access to the unlocked room where everything appeared normal, except for blood stains at the door.

The matter prompted Muthoni and the team to file a report at Kasarani Police Station where according to her, the police were furnished with the suspect's identity as well as relevant CCTV footage from a nearby location where he picked the premises’s keys.

Law enforcement officers were seen handling polythene bags and a blood-soaked bedsheet, which was thought to contain the remains of the deceased woman on Sunday. Preliminary reports indicated that the woman was stabbed and chopped to death.

"Very shocking and sad morning along TRM Drive, Thika Road. A woman has been stabbed & chopped to death in an Airbnb. The killer then stuffed body parts in a paper bag," stated Nation Media Group (NMG) journalist, Leon Lidigu on X (formerly Twitter), who was among the first to report the news of the macabre murder.

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers from Kasarani had arrived at the crime scene and were trying to establish what exactly happened, with investigations since launched to establish the cause of the murder.

Jimmy Kimari, the head of Kasarani Divisional Criminal Investigations, who was present at the scene, issued a stern warning of impending crackdowns on Airbnb operators who did not have security cameras installed and urged them to keep detailed guest records.

The identity of the suspect and the deceased woman was yet to be established, with a source privy to the events telling Viral Tea that she was absent from the area and would get back to us with more details from the ground.

The murders come a week after popular Instagram personality and businesswoman Starlet Wahu was found murdered in an Airbnb apartment in South B, Nairobi, with 34-year-old John Matara currently in police custody pending murder charges in court.
