President William Ruto's daughter, Charlene Ruto on Wednesday, December 7 responded to criticism that emerged from her narration that she sold 'smokie kachumbari' while at Daystar University.

Through Twitter, the First Daughter reminded her followers that successful entrepreneurs reap big from their ventures by starting at a young age with mentors to guide them through the journey of owning a business.

"The age-old question still remains; Are entrepreneurs born or made?

"By nurturing entrepreneurial ventures earlier on in life, we gain a much-needed skillset in learning how to run successful businesses in the future. What hustle did you carry out while in school?" she posed.

She then invited her fellow Daystar alumni to a Christmas party, sharing a poster revealing details of the event which will be held on Saturday, December 10 at the Athi River main campus between 10 am and 3 pm.

While promising a variety of delicious snacks at the event, Charlene quipped that she would test her mettle in making smochas, a snack consisting of smokie sausage and chapati which is one of the most popular bitings amongst modern Kenyans.

"This Saturday, we roll our sleeves and delve into memories of the good ol' days at Daystar Uni as we indulge in various delights at the Daystar Alumni Association Christmas Party. Might even carry smokies for my customers or even try my hand at smochas.

"I hope you will still support this comrade because weeeeuhh...anyway," she added.

While addressing students at the University, as captured in a video that went viral, the First Daughter revealed that her father had played a big role in pushing her to pursue profits in her business when he was the second-in-command to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I used to have a business selling smokie Kachumbari while on campus at Daystar University, that was a profitable business then, my father encouraged me in that small business I was doing and one principle that he taught me that I want you to...” she recalled.

But as she continued narrating her ordeal, a section of students who were in attendance at the auditorium raised doubts about her story owing to the Public Relations (PR) stunts she has been believed to have generated ever since her father became President.

A Daystar alumnus confirmed to Viral Tea that Charlene used to sell smokie kachumbari while at the university.

Charlene Ruto has used a variety of situations to increase her presence online as well as her profile as the First Daughter. She has been engaged in high-profile public events despite her father not appointing her to a government role.

On Friday, November 25, the nickname 'Quickmart Ivanka' was posted by a user directly referring to Charlene. Nonetheless, her series of high-level engagements in recent weeks across the country only made the name more popular.
