President William Ruto's daughter, Charlene Ruto was once again a viral topic on social media following her narration that she sold 'smokie kachumbari' while at Daystar University.

While addressing students at the University, as captured in a video that has gone viral, the First Daughter revealed that her father had played a big role in pushing her to pursue profits in her business when he was the second-in-command to former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“I used to have a business selling smokie Kachumbari while on campus at Daystar University, that was a profitable business then, my father encouraged me in that small business I was doing and one principle that he taught me that I want you to...” she recalled.

But as she continued narrating her ordeal, a section of students who were in attendance at the auditorium raised doubts about her story owing to the Public Relations (PR) stunts she has been believed to have generated ever since her father became President.

Notably, this also caught the attention of Kenyans On Twitter (KOT) who questioned the authenticity of the narrative, some of whom were Daystar alumni.

"The lie is comically tragic I’ve been in Daystar Valley road with her, she used to come to lectures with a polish very nice BMW & then whiz out after," Nick Khaila challenged.

"We can't get a Daystar alumni to confirm this story?" Wachera posed.

"Those who studied at Daystar between 2013-2021, kindly confirm if Charlene Ruto has ever sold you smokie pasua," Jeffrey Jeff announced.

Smokie pasua is a known lucrative side hustle fetching one approximately thousands of shillings on a good day.

The delicacy is so popular with university students that chapati has been added to the mix, popularly called smocha, which retails for Ksh50, according to numerous spot checks by Viral Tea. One can choose additions of avocado and sauces such as tomato, chilli sauce, BBQ, mustard, and mayonnaise among others.

Charlene Ruto has used a variety of situations to increase her presence online as well as her profile as the First Daughter. She has been engaged in high-profile public events despite her father not appointing her to a government role.

On Friday, November 25, the nickname 'Quickmart Ivanka' was posted by a user directly referring to Charlene. Nonetheless, her series of high-level engagements in recent weeks across the country only made the name more popular.

The netizens took to compare the third-born daughter of the Head of State to Ivanka Trump, the daughter of former US President Donald Trump, who faced criticism in similar circumstances.

KOT added "Quickmart" to the nickname to refer to the supermarket which has been rapidly expanding across the country, with 53 branches in 13 counties across Kenya since opened, hiring over 5,000 workers and offering shoppers items that they need at an affordable price.

On Monday night, November 28, she laughed off the "Quickmart Ivanka" moniker and went to the extent of sharing a photo and video of her shopping in the popular supermarket while queuing in front of its logo to pay for the goods.

"Fresh and easy does it. We move regardless. Where are we popping up next? #Onward #AchievingThePlan," she captioned.

The public relations officer and branding officer at Weston Hotel, Nairobi, which is owned by her father, has been instrumental in ensuring that the Head of State's legacy is secured even after he leaves office at the end of his tenure.
