Two suspects have been arrested in connection with a daring Ksh17.6 million godown heist at Atlantic Business Park in Embakasi, Nairobi.

According to a statement by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspects, believed to be the masterminds behind the April 20 burglary, were smoked out of a hideout at Scorpion Den Hotel in Ruai by detectives from Embakasi Police Station.

The high-stakes theft unfolded over the Easter weekend, when employees of Aetlantiq Group Limited returned to work only to find their warehouses—Go Downs No. 16 and 17—had been broken into.

The intruders, armed with crude weapons, reportedly sliced through the iron sheet roofing to access the accounts office and storerooms.

The loot was revealed to be a massive haul of electronics and accessories, including:

  • 363 Hisense 43” TVs

  • 20 HB 20” TVs

  • 11 HS 218 soundbars

  • Multiple HP laptops, mobile phones and desktop computers

  • CCTV servers, school bags, spare parts, and more

Making matters worse, a team of on-site security guards allegedly responded to the triggered alarm but failed to alert authorities, and have since vanished. Investigators are treating their disappearance as a potential inside job.

Following a detailed forensic trail, detectives zeroed in on the suspects—James Macharia Mwangi and Keriko Wanjama—recovering a sizable portion of the stolen goods during their arrest. Among the recovered items are:

  • 269 Hisense 43” TVs

  • 65 Hisense 55” A6 TVs

  • 2 Hisense 65” Q6 TVs

  • Several other television models, soundbars, and speakers

  • A white Mitsubishi FH truck that was still loaded with the loot

Both suspects are currently in custody, awaiting arraignment as the probe widens. Authorities are now hunting down the rogue security personnel and any other accomplices tied to the heist.

On April 16, the National Police Service (NPS) announced measures to combat criminal activities that include burglaries and petty offences ahead of the Easter holidays.

NPS announced that more police officers would be deployed to areas of huge public interest that include markets, shopping malls and termini of major forms of transport, including air.
