Dagoretti North Member of Parliament (MP) Beatrice Elachi has addressed the significant attention she garnered after delivering a hard-hitting and emotional prayer during the 2025 National Prayer Breakfast held in Nairobi.

The prayer, which went viral on social media platforms, saw her call out the country’s leadership failures and ask for divine help.

In front of President William Ruto, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, and both local and international leaders, Elachi didn’t hold back. She openly criticised Kenya’s leadership, pointing to corruption, bad governance, and a breakdown in morals as driving forces behind the country’s struggles.

Her unapologetically blunt prayer came off more like a rebuke than a blessing, and it made some leaders squirm — their body language said it all.

"But Lord, today we pray for forgiveness. We have compromised ourselves, Father. We've been unable to stand with courage, Father. We have left our country, our young people, in helplessness, in gambling," Elachi prayed.

The prayer took a striking turn when she openly admitted that leaders had abandoned their responsibility to serve the people, choosing instead to chase personal riches.

"We compromised our gates, our airports. Our waters, our boundaries. We have loved money beyond measure, Father, that we can sell our nation at any given time," she continued.

The lawmaker also took aim at the unchecked influence of social media, warning that it is hijacking Kenya’s moral direction, shaping youth behaviour, political narratives, and national conversations in ways that urgently call for ethical leadership and tighter regulation.

She prayed for a return to integrity in public service, safeguarding of national infrastructure, and an end to what she described as a wasteful culture of tenders and maintenance contracts draining public funds.

The MP also lifted President Ruto, his cabinet, and government workers across national and county levels—including Nairobi—asking for divine guidance, a clear purpose, and protection from sabotage and self-serving agendas.

As she wrapped up her prayer, Elachi referred to Nairobi as the "Jerusalem of Kenya," calling on God to bring order to the city, the nation, and the continent. She prayed that Kenya’s wealth would be used to uplift its people from poverty, not become a burden.

She ended with a blessing for President Ruto and his team, along with a heartfelt appeal for the country’s leaders to lead in alignment with God’s will.

Her seven-minute prayer triggered a wave of online reactions, with Kenyans debating whether it was a bold truth bomb or just political theatre.

However, she promptly urged Kenyans not to misunderstand her prayer, especially the part about regulating social media, clarifying that her intention wasn’t to condemn the platforms themselves.

“My prayer was not to condemn platforms or technology but to call for a national introspection on how we use them,” Elachi clarified.
