Comedian Eric Omondi was for the third successive time arrested on Tuesday, March 28 while on his way to State House in Nairobi pulling a mkokoteni (handcart) full of Curriculum Vitae (CVs).

A video seen by Viral Tea showed the comedian pulling the handcart loaded with nearly 3 million CVs along Uhuru Highway with the intention of presenting them to President William Ruto at State House, who is currently out of the country.

The renowned comedian turned activist had revealed that he decided to present the documents to State House to address the rampant job crisis in the country, which has seen university graduates with degrees fail to get jobs.

"These are peoples' CVs. I don't want to endanger the lives of other Kenyans. They are 3 million CVs with me here.

"I'm taking them to President William Ruto so that he sees Kenyans that have gone to University yet they don't have jobs. I'm going to State House alone," Eric Omondi said as he pulled the cart along the busy road.

Omondi was however stopped by police officers who tried to stop him along the way but he responded by saying that he had already talked to the OCS and that they were at the liberty of calling him to confirm. His pleas were ignored as police moved to arrest him.

On Wednesday, March 1, Omondi was arrested and whisked away by police officers as he was trying to distribute free packets of unga to his fans at City Stadium in Nairobi.

The officers, some of them in anti-riot gear, were seen surrounding Omondi while clutching a packet of unga. He had tried to resist arrest but was powerless against the cops who overpowered him and drove him away from the place.

"Hii unga ni ya kusaidia wakenya wenzangu (this unga is for my fellow Kenyans). They are hungry. Lorry zinaleta unga hapa (the lorries are coming here with unga)," he pleaded.

He was led away from the entrance of the stadium and bundled into a Subaru which drove him to the Industrial Area police station.

Omondi stated that he was attempting to assist his fans who were unable to afford basic necessities such as flour, sugar, and cooking oil, handing out free bags of flour to his supporters at the stadium compound before the officers pounced on him.

He claimed to have purchased flour out of his own pocket and wished to share it with his devoted followers.

Omondi had previously extended an invite to his fans to City Stadium while promising to share a free packet of Unga with everyone who plans to accompany him to State House.

“This Wednesday we meet at City Stadium from 11 am to 2 pm as we share a packet of unga with everyone that intends to join us at State House. We are calling upon well-wishers to donate unga,” Omondi announced on Monday, February 27.

He also vowed to mobilise them for a march from Uhuru Park to State House on Tuesday, March 7 to present CVs, rent arrears, school fee arrears, shopping lists for basic necessities, and electricity bills.
