Comedian Eric Omondi was on Wednesday, March 1 arrested for the second time in one week.

Omondi, in videos seen by Viral Tea, was whisked away by police officers as he was trying to distribute free packets of unga to his fans at City Stadium in Nairobi.

The officers, some of them in anti-riot gear, were seen surrounding Omondi while clutching a packet of unga. He had tried to resist arrest but was powerless against the cops who overpowered him and drove him away from the place.

Here's the video:

"Hii unga ni ya kusaidia wakenya wenzangu (this unga is for my fellow Kenyans). They are hungry. Lorry zinaleta unga hapa (the lorries are coming here with unga)," he pleaded.

He was led away from the entrance of the stadium and bundled into a Subaru which drove him to the Industrial Area police station.

Omondi stated that he was attempting to assist his fans who were unable to afford basic necessities such as flour, sugar, and cooking oil, handing out free bags of flour to his supporters at the stadium compound before the officers pounced on him.

He claimed to have purchased flour out of his own pocket and wished to share it with his devoted followers.

Omondi had previously extended an invite to his fans to City Stadium while promising to share a free packet of Unga with everyone who plans to accompany him to State House.

“This Wednesday we meet at City Stadium from 11 am to 2 pm as we share a packet of unga with everyone that intends to join us at State House. We are calling upon well-wishers to donate unga,” Omondi announced on Monday, February 27.

He also vowed to mobilise them for a march from Uhuru Park to State House on Tuesday, March 7 to present CVs, rent arrears, school fee arrears, shopping lists for basic necessities, and electricity bills.

On Tuesday, February 21, he was arrested while leading a group of over 20 shirtless men in mini protests outside Parliament Buildings in Nairobi, who were also half-naked and heavily built, preferably those fond of going to the gym.

The contingent had closed off one section of Parliament Avenue as they gradually marched on, holding up placards that read "Stima Juu, Unga Juu, Mafuta Juu, Tax juu (Electricity high, price of unga high, fuel prices high, tax high)" in protest of the current and harsh economic situation contributing to the high cost of living.

Omondi, alongside 16 protesters, were later set free on a cash bail of Ksh10,000 each after they were charged with taking part in an illegal demonstration outside Parliament Buildings.

His actions won plaudits within the Azimio la Umoja coalition, particularly from the party leader, Raila Odinga, who noted that it was a constitutional right for him to protest.

It was the same Parliament Buildings where he was arrested in November 2021 for storming Parliament buildings in order to demand more local content on media stations, protesting how foreign music and film were robbing the mainstream platforms of local talent.
