Comedian Eric Omondi has castigated politicians particularly allied to the Azimio la Umoja coalition for staging public rallies at random days of the week at the expense of Kenyans.

In a video he shared on his Instagram page on Wednesday, February 15, Omondi lamented the troubled state of the economy in the country which has seen even young Kenyans suffer due to a lack of money.

He revealed that he has been receiving phone calls from Kenyans begging him for financial assistance as they have been struggling to take care of their rent arrears and having a hard time affording food to eat.

Omondi further revealed that a large number of children are now at home because their parents do not have money for their school fees. This, he says has become like a lifestyle in Kenya.

He further noted that the youth in the country have been turned into political and economic slaves by those propagating the rallies.

"Have you noticed there is no money in Kenya, especially in the pockets of the young people? While our politicians perambulate every weekend, sometimes even weekdays in political rallies and exchange of words while we suffer.

"Do you know that we are under slavery? We are under shackles. Do you know that our lives have been the same year in and year out?" he posed.

Omondi advised the youth to prepare themselves for their own revolution and set themselves free from the chains of slavery and being brainwashed.

"It is time to emancipate ourselves. it is time to break the shackles. Mark my words we are going to change this culture.

"We are going to break free from the chains of slavery. Political, economic slavery and brainwashing. Get ready to break your shackles," Eric charged.

Omondi's message on youths being caught in political rallies followed a similar one by former Kisii County Woman Representative, Janet Ong'era who asked the youth not to be misused by some leaders with self-interest to demonstrate ahead of the Azimio anti-government rally on Friday, February 17.

Ong'era stated on Monday, February 13 that their massive exodus from Azimio was a landmark that they are working with and supporting the President Ruto-led government.

"Let's be realistic, we cannot dwell in the past, let us plan for the future," she stated.

She went on to announce that as leaders they will not allow some individuals to use youths to demonstrate for their selfish gain.

The Azimio rally was pushed from Monday, February 13 to Friday to allow for proper planning and consultation.

On February 15, Azimio leader Raila Odinga announced the schedule of the coalition's public rallies, starting from Kisii on Friday and then to Kisumu, on Saturday, February 18.
