Bondo United Football Club (FC) players were on Sunday, October 22 involved in a road accident while travelling to Naivasha.

Reports indicated that the players were travelling to the Nakuru County-based town for a football match onboard a van in the company of technical bench members when the accident occurred along the Londiani-Muhoroni highway.

Bondo United FC was set to play against Sunderland Naivasha in a Football Kenya Federation Division One Zone B fixture.

In a formal communication, the club revealed that all the injured players were rescued and rushed to a local hospital for emergency medical attention.

"Injured players are getting medical assistance at Fort Ternan Hospital. Lord of second chances, thank you once again," the club revealed on its social media pages.

Luckily, no fatalities were reported during the early morning incident.

Former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga and Siaya Governor James Orengo led the sporting fraternity and Kenyans in sending messages of quick recovery to the injured players recuperating at the hospital.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the injured Bondo United players as they recover from today's accident near Kericho while en route to Naivasha for a football match," Odinga stated.

"To the injured Bondo United players, you are all in my thoughts and prayers as you recover from the accident you had today around Kericho on your way to Naivasha for a football match," stated Orengo.

Football clubs such as KCB wrote "Prayers to the players and technical staff of Bondo United FC who were involved in a road accident early today."

Images seen by Viral Tea showed the 14-seater vehicle the players were travelling in significantly damaged with a smashed windscreen covered in mud and protruding from the car's body, indicating that the vehicle likely rolled over multiple times.

The exact cause of the accident remains unknown, however, the mud on the windscreen and front of the vehicle likely pointed out to the accident having occurred during the ongoing rainy season.

On Friday, July 7, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) cautioned motorists against using cruise control while driving along major highways during the rainy season, as well as stressed the importance of using brakes in advance.

Cruise control allows you to maintain a set speed without using the accelerator. Once you've selected the speed, you can take your foot off the accelerator and the vehicle will cruise at that speed.

NTSA revealed in a statement that the move was prompted by rains experienced in recent days across the country, which have made the road surfaces wet and skiddy.

The authority also warned motorists against instant braking on wet roads as this could lead to vehicles skidding and causing accidents that could lead to loss of life.
