Goons Stone Rigathi Gachagua's Motorcade
The convoy, which included former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, came under attack in Chwele town.

Chaos broke out on Friday, July 4, after hired goons allegedly attacked a convoy carrying opposition leaders shortly after their rally in Bungoma County.
The convoy, which included former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka, former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya, came under attack in Chwele town.
Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, who was part of the group, said their convoy was ambushed while en route to Kitale. The attackers hurled stones at them, forcing them to flee for safety.
"Guys, we are at Chwele town…. we are under heavy attack from government-sponsored goons…..goons are firing gunshots, aiming at our convoy we were heading to Kitale," he wrote on X.

Videos that went viral on social media and seen by Viral Tea showed a large group of individuals blocking one of the main roads and hurling stones towards the opposition leaders' vehicles. Others, armed with clubs, chased the leaders away.
“The police are working with the goons, have you seen the way they are not even stopping them, that is exactly what they want to do during the Saba Saba day protests. They are even giving them weapons," Orwoba revealed.
“It is evident that the authorities that are supposed to protect Kenyans are now arming goons and militia to kill anyone with a divergent view. We had to evacuate this leader who was attacked by the militia and left to die. He had a deep cut on his head, several other cuts on his body, and had bled out."
The convoy is touring the Western region as part of a multi-county opposition campaign to drum up support and address recent political issues, including the Gen Z protests and accusations of state power abuse.
Despite the destruction, the leaders pushed on and proceeded to Kitale, where they carried on with their program.
Speaking in Bungoma, Gachagua stated that the county was prepared to correct past mistakes and build a better future.
“A trailblazer in decision-making and governance, Bungoma has reaffirmed that power truly belongs to the people and can only be exercised through their collective will," Gachagua revealed.
