The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr. Anthony Omerikwa has issued a stern warning to criminal networks targeting schol-going children with drugs.

Omerikwa on Friday, November 14 announced that the authority would go after notorious drug traffickers intent on taking advantage of the long school holidays to lure school-going children into drug abuse.

He emphasized that multi-agency operations will continue to dismantle networks supplying narcotics to minors, signaling a zero-tolerance approach.

“To the drug traffickers who see school holidays as a prime time to peddle your poison and destroy our children, your days are numbered,” Dr. Omerikwa said.

The warning comes as authorities intensify efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect young people during peak holiday periods.

He was speaking after a multi-agency team arrested a notorious drug trafficker in Naivasha, Nakuru County and seized a large consignment of bhang valued at over Ksh 2 million, in a major strike against the narcotics trade.

“This operation is a clear message that we are coming for you. We will not allow you to jeopardize the future of our next generation.”

The operation, carried out on Tuesday by NACADA and the National Police Service (NPS), targeted a suspected drug den where officers uncovered a sophisticated packaging hub.

Cannabis sativa was found packed in stones, tariffs, sacks, and rolls, indicating a large-scale distribution network. The suspects, including the high-profile trafficker long under surveillance, are now in custody.

The Naivasha raid is part of the nationwide Rapid Results Initiative (RRI), an intensified campaign against drugs and illicit alcohol directed by Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kipchumba Murkomen.

According to NACADA, the initiative has strengthened intelligence-led operations, resulting in a surge of seizures and arrests.

“This successful operation is a direct result of the renewed multi-agency vigour under the Rapid Results Initiative,” NACADA stated. “We are leveraging intelligence and acting decisively to dismantle these networks from the top down.”

The Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) Headquarters has taken over the case for further investigation and prosecution.
