A drug kingpin is on the loose as the National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) took its war against drugs to Kisii County, targeting a village in a major crackdown on narcotics in the county.

NACADA on Wednesday, April 2, led a high-profile multi-agency operation which uncovered a massive consignment of suspected cannabis sativa in Kisii County.

The Wednesday afternoon raid in Mwamogeza Village, Kiamuasi Location, Daraja Mbili sub-location, led to the seizure of seven 50kg sacks, four 90kg sacks, and two large carrier bags of the illicit substance, all cleverly hidden in rental houses.

Authorities are now on the hunt for the prime suspect, Geoffrey Nyabira, alias Jeff, a notorious drug kingpin who narrowly escaped arrest. Nyabira, well-known in the region for his deep ties to the drug trade, remains a top target for law enforcement.

NACADA’s Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, vowed an all-out war against drug syndicates, warning traffickers that their days are numbered.

“We are not relenting in our pursuit of drug barons, their merchants, and their distribution networks. This seizure is a testament to our resolve. We will hunt down every individual profiting from the destruction of our youth and communities,” Dr. Omerikwa declared.

Three suspects were arrested during the operation and will face charges as investigations continue. Meanwhile, authorities are assessing the street value of the massive haul while intensifying efforts to track down Nyabira, who is revealed to have a long history of evading capture.

Dr. Omerikwa urged the public to play a role in dismantling drug networks by reporting suspicious activities. “Community involvement is key. Your tip could save lives and help us take down these criminal enterprises for good.”

This latest bust underscores NACADA’s aggressive crackdown on narcotics as part of a broader national war on substance abuse. Security agencies have pledged relentless raids on drug hotspots until the networks are completely dismantled.

Earlier today, police officers from Kamagambo Police Station arrested a suspected drug trafficker who was driving a public service vehicle (PSV) but was caught with 401 rolls of bhang with an estimated street value of Ksh1,032,000.

A thorough search led to the discovery of two bags containing 401 sizable rolls of bhang, weighing 34.4 kilograms.

In a shocking revelation, DCI disclosed that the vehicle’s driver, identified as Calvin Okoth Otieno, was found transporting only students, allegedly in an attempt to evade suspicion. However, his tactic was foiled by the keen vigilance of the public and law enforcement.

As law enforcement tightens the noose, authorities remain confident that justice will be swift and that drug traffickers will face the full force of the law.

More raids are expected in the coming weeks as NACADA ramps up its efforts to root out illicit drugs at their source.
