Cape Media Limited's TV47 announced on Friday, January 12 that celebrated sports journalist Tony Kwalanda joined the TV station.

The station announced through its social media handles that Kwalanda was joining its ranks as a sports anchor and reporter.

"Tony Kwalanda is here...TV47 Sports just got better. Brace yourself for top-class sports entertainment from the man himself," the station wrote.

At the same time, it shared its promo video of Kwalanda embarking on different sports disciplines, including golf which happens to be one of his hobbies.

As a seasoned sports journalist, Kwalanda will be tasked with enhancing sports content for TV47 across its platforms, TV and digital included.

Before his move to Cape Media, Kwalanda had a stint at Look Up TV where he hosted the Sports 360 show every Monday from 9.30 p.m. after the evening bulletin, having announced his media comeback on May 1, 2023.

He had previously abandoned the media space to try his hand at Kenyan politics and had sought the Member of the County Assembly (MCA) for Manda Shivanga Ward in Kakamega County.

Many would be familiar with him for his stint at Switch TV where he served as a broadcast journalist and hosted a sports show dubbed Sports Centre, which aired before the 9 pm news and featured sports pundits and guests either in the studio or contributing live through video calls.

However, the station would later terminate its broadcast services in December 2021, upon which he took up the digital desk.

Kwalanda joined Mediamax Networks in 2008 as a full-time reporter of news stories, before he was promoted to presenter and editor in 2012. In 2015, he took up the role of digital journalist at K24.

With 14 years of media experience under his belt, Kwalanda wears several hats, including reporter, anchor, producer, and editor.

He is an alumnus of Lubinu Boys High School in Kakamega County and Daystar University where he pursued a degree in communication and media studies.

Kwalanda was also known for dating his former colleague, Joyce Maina while he was still at Switch TV.

The couple however broke up in March 2021 after dating for nearly six months.
