The Jubilee Party has announced that it has resolved to initiate the process of exiting the Azimio la Umoja coalition and dismissed former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni as the Secretary-General.

Jubilee Party Chairman, Nelson Dzuya announced on Friday, February 10 that Kioni was suspended due to negligence and misconduct.

Dzuya further noted that East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) Kanini Kega will take Kioni's place.

The party's National Executive Council (NEC) also expressed its plans to exit the Azimio coalition under Raila Odinga, and that they will not participate in their anti-President William Ruto protests.

Other members suspended from the party include Kagwe Gichohi, the National Treasurer and David Murathe, the National vice Chairperson. Their cases have been referred to the party's Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism for further determination.

"The National Executive Committee commences the process of exiting the Azimio coalition. The National Executive Committee engages with the ruling coalition on the possibility of creating a working cooperation arrangement with it.

"The National Executive Committee demands that Jubilee Party be recognized as a Parliamentary Party with all the rights and benefits accruing thereto taking into account that Jubilee Party is the third largest party in Parliament," read a statement from Jubilee party.

Taking the place of the suspended members are Kanini Kega as Secretary General, Rachel Nyamai as the National treasurer, and Adan Keynan as the National Vice Chairperson.

"That the National Disputes Resolution Committee (NEC) be convened immediately to consider the matters of the suspended officials listed above.

That the National Executive Committee hereby co-opts the following as members of NEC to comply with the two-thirds gender rule as required by the Registrar of Political Parties in her communication dated 25th January 2023,” added the statement while announcing Irene Njoki Murembo (Bahati MP), Sabina Chege (Nominated MP), Margaret Kamar (Nominated) and Jerusha Momanyi (Nyamira Women Rep) as NEC members in acting capacity pending the outcome of the internal dispute resolution mechanism.

However, former President Uhuru Kenyatta remains the Jubilee Party leader.

The suspension and exit from Azimio come after over 30 Jubilee MPs met President Ruto at State House on Wednesday, February 8, barely a day after he met party officials allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

"We have no apologies to make for working with anyone," Ruto said.

"The president wants everyone on board and you're welcome to join us," weighed in DP Gachagua.

"We  welcome this reunion knowing that we need every vote in the house whenever we have a matter to vote on," added Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot

His counterpart from the National Assembly Kimani Ichung'wa promised to make the 30 Jubilee MPs part of them and that they will be attending Kenya Kwanza caucuses.
