Lang'ata Member of Parliament Phelix Odiwuor alias Jalang'o met President William Ruto at State House on Tuesday, February 7.

Jalang'o was among nine Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) who were invited to State House for a breakfast meeting.

In a statement after the meeting, Jalang'o revealed that among the topics discussed in the meeting included the affordable housing project in his constituency as well as priority projects the government should embark on.

"Today we had breakfast with the president, I followed up on the start date of the construction of affordable housing in the Highrise ward and the completion of the Lang'ata TVET.

"The project is on and the contractor is on the ground, an extra Ksh50 million has been located for the completion," Jalang'o stated.

Other ODM legislators who were at the meeting included Tom Ojienda (Kisumu), Shakeel Shabir (Kisumu Town East), Caroli Omondi (Suba South), Elisha Odhiambo (Gem), Gideon Ochanda (Bondo), and Mark Nyamita (Uriri).

Ruto met with the legislators alongside Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua as a follow-up to his recent tour of the Nyanza region. The leaders explored a mechanism of working together to address national and county issues.

The MPs allied to the ODM party pledged their support to President Ruto, further stating that they were focused on service delivery and asked other leaders to shun politics.

"Leaders must join hands, foster coexistence and work together in confronting the challenges facing our country. They must endeavour to lead by example and serve the interest of the people. This is a sure route to a more united and developed Kenya," he stated.

President Ruto said he will work with leaders from across the political divide for the sake of the country’s unity and economic transformation. The legislators thanked the President for his visit to Nyanza and said their constituents are interested in service delivery.

Many political pundits have opined that President Ruto is wooing ODM legislators to his side despite calls by Azimio party leader, Raila Odinga to the Kenya Kwanza government to resign while declaring that he does not recognise Ruto as president.

In the Kibra rally, he blasted Ruto for his attacks on the Kenyatta family, accusing him of doublespeak on matters of taxation, claiming that the real tax cheats and lords of corruption are in government.

The Head of State had in late January held a working breakfast at State House in Nairobi with Members of Parliament (MP) allied to the Jubilee Party, an affiliate of the Raila Odinga-led Azimio la Umoja coalition.

The meeting was attended by, among others, former and current Jubilee MPs among them East Africa Legislation Assembly (EALA) MP Kanini Kega and lawmaker, Sabina Chege.

Others in attendance included David Kiaraho (Ol Kalou), Irene Njoki (Bahati), Zachary Kwenya (Kinangop), Shadrack Mwiti (South Imenti), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), Amos Mwago (Starehe), Daniel Karitho (Igembe Central), Stanley Muthama (Lamu West) and Joseph Githuku (Lamu).
