Former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni has poured cold water on his suspension as the Jubilee Party's Secretary General as well as the party's resolve to quit Azimio la Umoja, moments after it was announced.

Speaking on Friday, February 10 at Mavoko Machakos County, Kioni urged Kenyans to disregard the party's statement, adding that Jubilee will stick with Azimio and former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga.

Kioni added that former President Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the Jubilee Party leader, was also still part of Azimio.

"Those at State House and elsewhere began a very dangerous plan affecting Kenyans. That is the plan to ensure opposition parties have been bought and broken up to make sure no leaders remain to represent Kenyan citizens.

"Let me tell you that in Nakuru I hear that some people met in Nakuru led by those who went to State House recently and claimed that Jubilee is leaving Azimio. That is a lie. Jubilee will be in Azimio to the end. Uhuru will be in Azimio to the end," he stated.

He further alleged that a section of individuals have been contracted by the government to scuttle the Jubilee party and urged them to leave the party alone.

"Those who have been paid by the government to dismantle Jubilee should leave the party and leave it to us," he suggested.

Even before the dust could settle, Kioni countered his ouster by initiating disciplinary action against Kanini Kega, nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege, Senator Fatuma Dullo and Adan Keynan.

"Reference is made to the subject matter. We are in receipt of a petition from one of our members of the party accusing you of among other things: Acting in a manner disloyal to Jubilee Party, advancing positions that are contrary to the position of the Jubilee Party, demonstrating a lack of respect for the decision made by the Jubilee Party, demonstrating a lack of respect for the Jubilee Party organs.

"This is to notify you that the said petition has been forwarded to the Party Disciplinary Committee as provided for by our Party Constitution to process and they will be contacting you in due course," read letters addressed to each of them.

Jubilee Party Chairman, Nelson Dzuya announced on Friday, February 10 that Kioni was suspended due to negligence and misconduct, adding that East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament (MP) Kanini Kega will take Kioni's place.

The party's National Executive Council (NEC) also expressed its plans to exit the Azimio coalition under Raila Odinga, and that they will not participate in their anti-President William Ruto protests.

Other members suspended from the party include Kagwe Gichohi, the National Treasurer and David Murathe, the National vice Chairperson. Their cases have been referred to the party's Internal Dispute Resolution Mechanism for further determination.

The suspension and exit from Azimio come after over 30 Jubilee MPs met President Ruto at State House on Wednesday, February 8, barely a day after he met party officials allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
