The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced on Thursday, June 1 that traffic along the busy Mombasa Road began being temporarily disrupted for a period of five days.

The road notice announced in a statement that maintenance works would commence from 10 pm on June 1, which would prompt a temporary diversion of traffic along the road.

However, the maintenance period would last until 5 am the following day and would be undertaken again between 10 pm and 5 am from Thursday, June 1 to Tuesday, June 6.

Traffic would be diverted between the Nyayo Stadium Roundabout and Nairobi Southern Bypass Interchange (Parkside Towers) and cars leaving the city must share lanes with vehicles heading in the opposite direction.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public of the temporary diversion of traffic between Nyayo Stadium Roundabout and Nairobi Southern Bypass Interchange (Parkside Towers), to allow for maintenance works on the carriageway.

"This will be carried out between 2200hrs and 0500hrs from 1st to 6th June 2023," KeNHA stated in part.

Motorists were, therefore, advised to exercise caution to avoid creating unwanted traffic snarl-ups on the busy highway.

KeNHA also indicated that it would designate officers at various sections of the road to help monitor the flow of traffic and guide motorists.

In addition, the road agency noted that it had also put up traffic signs to guide the movement of vehicles.

Motorists were assured that the repairs would be done within the stipulated time to avoid further delays.

The timing chosen for the maintenance is believed to have been for the purpose of avoiding chaotic traffic jams during rush hour.

However, KeNHA did not reveal what exactly the maintenance works were to be carried out on the road.

The disruption is likely to interfere with the travel times of residents using the road from Nairobi West, South C, and South B estates to get to their destinations for their day-to-day activities.
