Law Society of Kenya (LSK) President Eric Theuri has announced that the institution has cracked down on another fake lawyer amidst a manhunt launched on quack lawyers across the country.

Theuri revealed on Monday, October 16 that Sharon Adunya Atieno had impersonated an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and masquerading under a registered lawyer.

He added that Adunya had been practising law without the prerequisite qualifications as required by law and forged a national identity under the victim as well as produced a fake certificate.

"This afternoon together with the Nairobi Branch Rapid Response Team we caused the arrest of Sharon Adunya Atieno who had impersonated one of our Advocates and was using the alias Sharon Atieno Adunya Obade.

"She stole the identity of Sharon Atieno Obade and had forged a national identity under the alias and fake practising certificate to aid her illegal enterprise," stated Theuri.

The LSK boss added that Adunya is currently held at Capitol Police Station pending investigations and arraignment in Court.

"We thank our members for alerting us of this incident. We will not relent in this fight. The operation to rid masquerades will be intensive, thorough and unrelenting," he added.

Theuri's statement comes hours after Brian Mwenda asserted that he is not a fugitive as claimed by LSK which exposed him for masquerading as a lawyer and practising without a license.

Speaking on Monday, October 16 in the company of former Nairobi Governor, Mike Sonko, Mwenda restated that he was following the law and would respond to any requests to record a statement with the necessary authorities.

"For the record, I am not a fugitive. I am a law-abiding citizen and I am not going anywhere.

"Any place I will be needed, I'll go. We love the law and we want to persuade people that it is not just the text of the law but the purpose of the law," he argued.

Mwenda is alleged to have appeared in court on many occasions, presenting himself as an advocate of the High Court and is reported to have won all 26 cases that he has argued.

In a video that circulated on social media last week, Mwenda was spotted in court when former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga and others appeared before a Makadara court and argued for one of the accused persons.
