UPDATE Monday, June 12: David Mathenge, popularly known as Nameless, claimed that he was misquoted just days after disclosing during an interview that he recently underwent a vasectomy.

In a social media post, the Butterfly hitmaker clarified that his earlier statement was made in a light-hearted manner but emphasized that he was yet to undergo the procedure, despite contemplating it.

"Alaaar...guys, you don't know jokes? Nameless is NOT seedless buana.

"To be clear, I just said I am thinking of going for Vasectomy, I've not gone for it yet. My mother is even calling me asking me why I'm blocking further blessings," he wrote.

Kenyan musician David Mathenge alias Nameless disclosed recently undergoing a vasectomy procedure, stating that he decided to "take matters into his own hands."

The Butterfly hitmaker, who has three daughters with his wife and fellow singer Wahu Kagwi, was speaking at the launch of Talanta Hela at State House on Friday, June 9.

Nameless explained that he decided to take the family planning method after the celebrity couple expressed satisfaction that they have had enough children.

"Ah, tumefunga, nimeenda vasectomy ....nimeona nitake things into my own hands (I shut shop and underwent a vasectomy. I decided to take things into my own hands)," Nameless told Youtuber Vincent Mboya

"I think at this time, three girls, I'm happy with that, we are feeling blessed, Shiru is keeping us busy."

On critics begging him to sire a son for his legacy, Nameless clapped back at them for clinging on to age-old beliefs that a man should bear a son to carry forward his generational family line, affirming that gender was irrelevant as long as the child is healthy and strong.

"I find it very amusing that people can still use that old-school method of thinking. As long as you have a healthy child.

"You do your best, even if they are not 100 per cent healthy. As a parent you are supposed to guide the child," he noted.

Nameless and Wahu who are dubbed the Rita Wilson and Tom Hanks of Kenya, met in 1997 as students at the University of Nairobi. They dated for nearly eight years before deciding to marry on September 10, 2005, in a colourful wedding ceremony on Lake Naivasha's shores.

They have three children: Tumiso, born on August 2, 2006, Nyakio, born on August 9, 2013, and Shiru, born in October 2022.

Vasectomy is an elective surgical procedure for male sterilization or permanent contraception.

During the procedure, the male vasa deferentia are cut and tied or sealed so as to prevent sperm from entering the urethra and thereby prevent fertilization of a female through sexual intercourse.

The procedure has however been frowned upon by Kenyans who believe that it is too extreme for a person to go through, despite a number of male celebrities inching towards consideration of the process.

After abstinence, vasectomies are considered the most effective method of birth control due to their long-term success rate of over 99 per cent.

In fact, only 1-2 women out of every 1,000 end up pregnant within a year of their partner receiving a vasectomy.
