Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor was on Friday, January 26 offered a two-day holiday trip to a safari lodge in Tsavo, Taita Taveta County as a token of appreciation for his dedication and service in post-mortem examinations in many high-profile cases.

Oduor has been in the spotlight recently for his investigation into the tragic murder case of Rita Waeni Muendo, whose dismembered body and decapitated head were discovered in Roysambu and Kiambaa respectively on different dates in January.

Describing what he termed as crude details he found in the murder, Oduor told the media that the case was a rare one in his long-standing career, stating "This is the first time I have encountered such an incident. I have never come across such in my forensic life."

His sentiments and work ethic drew the attention of Kenyan acclaimed hotelier Mohammed Hersi who came forward with a heartwarming offer.

On his social media platforms, Hersi generously extended an invitation for Dr. Oduor and his wife to enjoy a fully sponsored weekend retreat at the picturesque Salt Lick Lodge.

"This man is selfless. He is not in this for the money. Late Waeni's case has really traumatized him, and he deserves a break with his better half. If you're known to him, he has a weekend at Salt Lick Safari Lodge to relax and unwind," he indicated.

The hotelier promised to personally see to it that Oduor is picked up from the Madaraka Express Station at Voi on the fully paid-for trip.

“Dr. Oduor, you deserve it. Will pick you up from the Madaraka Express train station at Voi, and you get to experience the most photographed lodge in Kenya and its sister lodge Taita Hills Safari Resort & Spa inside Taita Hills Wildlife Sanctuary all on full board.

"May almighty God give him the strength to continue serving humanity," Hersi shared.

Following the announcement, Bosire Wairimu, the founding Executive Director of the Africa Centre for Health Systems and Gender Justice, reached out to Hersi and shared the pathologist's contact.

Other medics however expressed their willingness to be coached by the pathologist. Others also sought Oduor to share his experience in a novel or podcast, noting: "What he has seen through his forensic practice life can never be comprehended."

Hersi's gesture reflects the appreciation and gratitude felt by many Kenyans for the difficult and often emotionally taxing work undertaken by professionals like Dr. Oduor in the field of forensic pathology.

It is worth it to note that Oduor, outside of his work, loves enjoying 'nyama choma' with his friends as well as spending time with family.

In a past interview, he opened up on his rigorous work schedule as he wakes up at 5:00 am and stays up until midnight.
