Nigerian music superstar Burna Boy is set to perform in Nairobi, Kenya on March 1, 2025, at the Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi. In light of a worrying trend of groups 'occupying concerts', the organisers have announced a significant rule that could set the tone for future concerts.

In a statement, events production, travel and ticketing company Madfun announced on Wednesday, February 26 that no entries will be allowed to the venue beyond 9 pm, a move geared at crowd control and ensuring that concertgoers get value for their money.

With gates opening at 3 pm, attendees have been encouraged to arrive early to avoid disappointment. Madfun also emphasized the importance of checking ticket types to ensure entry through the correct gates.

Furthermore, regular ticket holders are further encouraged to use public transport (Uber, Matatus and Motorbikes), with the event organizers noting that there is very limited parking at Ulinzi Sports Complex along Lang'ata Road.

"For those attending, gates will open at 3 pm and close at 9 pm. There will be no entry to the venue after 9 pm. Please ensure you’re aware of the correct access points based on your ticket type. Regular Ticket Holders: We encourage you to Uber as we have very limited parking at Ulinzi Sports Complex," the statement read in part.

Last year, several events ran into losses due to the rampant cases of gatecrashing, and crowd unruliness. It was at this venue on New Year's Eve that the trend resurfaced when revellers without tickets managed to gain access to the Shenseea concert, forcing police to lob teargas, a move that created panic and prematurely ended the Hit and Run hitmaker's on-stage performance.

Furthermore, Madfun warned the concert-goers and motorists in Nairobi of expected traffic disruption along Lang’ata Road. Those not attending are advised to steer clear of affected roads during peak hours to avoid unnecessary delays.

“We would like to inform you that the Madfunxperience at Uhuru Gardens (off Lang'ata Rd) will cause significant traffic disruptions. Expect road closures, detours and congestion, especially during the start and end of the event,” added part of the advisory.

“To minimize delays, we recommend planning ahead, allowing extra travel time and considering alternative routes.”

Event attendees are encouraged to stay informed about real-time traffic updates through Madfun’s official communication channels. Additionally, they should follow signage and comply with instructions from traffic authorities and event organizers to ensure a safe and seamless experience for all.

The Madfun Xperience, headlined by Nigerian music sensation Burna Boy, was originally scheduled for December 30, 2024, at the Nairobi Polo Club Grounds.

The Grammy-winning Afrofusion artist is celebrated for his unique genre-blending sound and hit songs such as Anybody, Last Last, and Ye. Known for his signature Afrobeat rhythms and electrifying stage presence, the African Giant was set to end December on a high note. However, the concert was rescheduled to March 1, 2025, and will now take place at Uhuru Gardens in Nairobi.

Burna Boy will be joined on stage by some of Africa’s top artists, including Kenyan Afro-pop sensation Charisma, who expressed his excitement during the official concert announcement.

Known for his dynamic performances and smooth vocals, Charisma described the event as a pivotal moment in his career. “This is a dream moment, and I’m ready to give fans an unforgettable show,” he stated.

The event will also feature South African Amapiano DJ and producer Virgo Deep, a trailblazer in the genre. Adding to the excitement is Kenyan star Bensoul, known for hits like Forget You and Nairobi.

Madfun emphasized that security will be a top priority, given the large crowd expected at the event. Speaking at the official announcement press conference, Nairobi Regional Sub-County Police Commander Monica Kimani reassured attendees that strict security measures will be implemented. “There will be no room for any aspect of criminality. We will also secure hotels where guests are staying and ensure smooth traffic flow,” she stated.
