The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced that a section of Lang'ata Road will be closed for the whole of this weekend.

In a notice, the authority's Director General Kungu Ndung’u revealed that the temporary closure will affect the busy road along the service lane bound for Nyayo National Stadium between T-Mall roundabout and Madaraka Roundabout.

The closure will allow for planned road maintenance works to be carried out along the section.

Ndung'u further revealed that the section would be closed on Saturday, February 24 and Sunday, February 25 between 6 am and 8 pm, potentially disrupting daytime traffic along that section of the road.

“The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that a section of Langata Road, along the service lane (Nyayo Stadium bound lane) between T-Mall Roundabout and Madaraka Roundabout will be closed.

"This follows planned road maintenance works along the section. The section will be closed on Saturday, February 24, 2024, and Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm,” read the notice in part.

The authority as a result advised motorists to follow the proposed traffic management plan and cooperate with the police and traffic marshals on site.

Motorists from Raila Odinga Way, Mai Mahiu Road and Lang'ata Road heading towards Madaraka Roundabout have therefore been advised to take Ole Sangale Link

Alternatively, they are advised to turn at T-Mall Roundabout and proceed to the U-turn just after Wilson Airport exit and take the Flyover towards Madaraka.

Sections of Lang'ata Road have been closed before as announced by KeNHA, including on three occasions in October 2022.

On September 30, 2022, KeNHA announced that the temporary closure of the road took place between October 1 and 2, 2022 affecting the U-turn at the Carnivore entrance and Uhuru Gardens. This was to facilitate the installation of the Uhuru Gardens Footbridge.

Another closure announced on October 5, 2022, targeted the busy road between the U-turn to Lang'ata Hospital and Langata Barracks Roundabout to allow for the erection of a footbridge at Lang'ata Barracks.

A third closure affected the Galleria Mall entrance between the Ola Petrol Station and the U-turn slot at Nyumba Moja Road Junction, for purposes of erecting the Galleria Mall footbridge.

KeNHA had in August 2022 commissioned the T-Mall footbridge on August 5 as part of the government's plan to improve transport across Kenya.

Footbridges are meant to provide a safer means for passengers to cross busy roads, especially in areas of high human traffic and in the vicinity of pickup points for public transport vehicles (matatus).
